Z.I.P.
Got a e-mail from ZipsFund with the attached UA NCAA College Cup website: http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204844318. At least they're prepared! So far I know of seven or eight from this board who are going to the finals. And that doesn't include Root4Roo who I'm sure is getting rich from the media biz. I leave at dawn Tuesday, Hawaii time, arrive in Santa Barbara late PM. I'm staying at Best Western South Shore Inn in Goleta, which with AAA discount is about $160 nt for two. Two or three of us are staying at the Hampton Inn in Goleta, very near the Best Western, and about 4-5 miles from campus. There is much to do on the Central Coast. Scott Ditzen may bring his surfboard if he comes, but he won't be joined by Z.I.P. -- I don't have a wetsuit, and its TOO COLD. Thursday, I'm planning an all-day Santa Ynez Valley wine tour with MD Zip and Co (the Sideways Soccer Tour). Would like to get some more bodies to show off the Zip Pride at Firestone Winery where all the money from Akron's tire industry ended up. Hope to get a reservation at a really nice inn in the area for dinner. My other interests include the Santa Barbara Zoo, which has a fairly new exhibit for their California endangered species, including the 9-foot wingspan condors. Would make a good battle for Zeke! You can drive up the coast to places like San Simeon and Pismo Beach and the even better wine country in San Luis Obispo County, Edna Valley and other appelations. I'm looking at a pregame meal either Friday or Sunday at Woody's Barbeque a famous location in the area. Anyone who's interested in getting together sometime before the games, just PM me, and I'll add your name and # to the list.
mes102
I can't go Friday since I have to coach a high school basketball game on Saturday at 7:30pm. But, if we make it to the national championship game, I might be able to go, if I can get some one to help me get there, or go with... You couldn't drive in that time. Just found out that a train trip would be 55-60 hours there and back and would cost 550 bucks at cheapest (most around 700). CRAZY.

fknbuflobo
For those of us unable to attend, where is the best establishment in which to watch Friday's match? Are we 8:30 or 11:00?

Easy to understand why they would pick the 8:30 EST match over the 11:00 game.
fknbuflobo
Who the hell is going to a bar to watch an 11:00 pm kick-off? No one in EST can do that, at least, not old people like me.
jem101
I find it slightly ridiculous that in a sport which is dominated by Midwest and specifically East coast teams, the NCAA decides to hold the Cup in Cali. None of the four teams remaining are anywhere near within driving range.

Put a Hawaian war chant on our opponents and the Zips will take care of the rest.
rc251
I find it slightly ridiculous that in a sport which is dominated by Midwest and specifically East coast teams, the NCAA decides to hold the Cup in Cali. None of the four teams remaining are anywhere near within driving range. The teams making a College Cup close to home has been kind of a crap shoot every year. 2002 was an all California college cup final match (UCLA vs Stanford), as was 2006 (UCSB vs UCLA), yet the College Cup wasn't held in the west. Western teams also had the runners up in 2004 and 2005. Although western teams haven't made the most recent cups, UCSBs fan base, location, and weather were probably convincing in rotating the College Cup back to the west (the last time the cup was held in the midwest, 2006 in St. Louis, the semifinal games were delayed a day due to weather, and the final game was played on a consecutive day). UCSB estimated they had sold 5,600-5,700 tickets (stadium capacity is 16,000) before the quarter final games were played, so it will be interesting to see how many of those people show up, and how many tickets are sold now that the final four is set. Maybe I could bring some lucky ti leaves. I know that Louisville #17's family will be there from Hawaii, so it may be a ti-off. See you sometime soon. ZachTheZip
I wish so badly that I could be there, but a combination of being a broke college student and an inflexible work schedule prevent me from attending my second College Cup in as many years. I changed my plans a little and am actually flying into LAX on Thursday night, but won't be into Santa Barbara until Friday afternoon. Safe journey. GO ZIPS! MDZip
Z.I.P. already mentioned me, but I am heading out Wednesday evening. A tour of the vineyards, a visit to Channel Islands National Park and a Zips Championship would top off the weekend nicely. By the way Top Drawer Soccer has a poll on their site for who will win the National Championship. Zips seem to be a prohibitive favorite. Zip_ME87
Buy those Gauchos' fans a beer! So far the Zips are leading in their poll of who they want to win.
RootforRoo44
You guys ever see what the Gauchos fans did when they won the title a few years ago? Yeah... Who's with me?
jem101
As a poor college student I can't financially afford to drop the $$ on a trip to Santa Barbara, but for those who are still looking for airline deals, Hotwire.com has flights from Columbus to LA for $300 if you fly out Friday and come back Monday.
