Dave in Green
I like this attitude a lot: But he still hasn't given up on his childhood dream of one day playing in the NFL. "That's what I am here for," said Moore. "I'm never going to let a dream die because I have hit a few bumps in the road. One thing I can say is everywhere I have played, we've won. If I can turn this around, which is my plan, you just never know. All I need is just one shot."
GP1
Interesting pieces and topic. The kid has talent and wins....that's what we need. Has he grown up?....maybe....he has had a lot of reality dumped on him the past couple of years. Reality is sobering. Here is my prediction. He came to Akron because he believes he can START next year. The QB job is open for the taking and I don't think CoachI has a favorite on the team. If he is the starter, it will be good for the Zips. We need winners on the field. 21 more winners would be even better. If he doesn't start, we will be reading stories about him at his fourth school in four years next year. You have to get him in there and see what happens. We have a senior QB who has hardly played now in almost two seasons, and we've wasted nearly two years now on a guy that has produced a D-1A ranking well over #100. We have to move forward, we have to get much better at this position right now, and this seems like our best option by far.

Lee Adams
If this guy is that good, seems a little strange that these BCS schools would have backed off completely. Wasn't like he was selling his rings or jackets or whatever...

Yeah...BCS schools would never hold a scholarship for, say, a molester. From Lawrence Phillips to Cam Newton...man, how easy would it be to list all the at-risk kids that BCS programs happily fight over to offer a free ride? InTheZone
I think coaches are a lot more willing to take a risk on a guy with some legal trouble than a guy who's squeaky clean off the field but tells his coach and his team to go f--- themselves at halftime of a championship game. Coaches can somewhat control and help kids with grade or legal issues. There's nothing you can do about an insubordinate prick who's going to undermine the authority of the coaching staff. THAT's why all those BCS schools backed off of him and Ole Miss yanked his scholly after the incident at the end of his high school career. It sounds like he's matured and learned his lesson though, and unless Nicely has suddenly learned how to read defenses and throw a ball within five yards of his targets, he'll be a huge improvement at the QB position. Forget this notion that the big schools get the good players with high GPAs and no issues. If anything, I think the idea that those schools are going after the best kids no matter what baggage they carry has worsened. We only have to look 2 hours down the road at Cowlumbus State for a good example.
Blue & Gold
I'm excited to see how Clayton changes our offense. QB - the most important position in all of sports? Patrick Nicely sure passes the eyeball test, but the on-the-field-test? Not so much. He just isn't a very accurate passer. If Clayton Moore is as accurate as one analyst I have read says he is - Rivals, Scout, ESPN, I forget - then he has the potential to make our offense click. A good QB will make our receivers look much better than they looked last year and a solid passing attack will, naturally, open up the run game. How about the goal keeper in any sport with a goal keeper? How about the center in football? If nobody snaps the ball, the quarterback is unneeded. And the list goes on and on and on. Dave in Green
GP1 nailed it earlier when he said that the kid has talent and wins. Virtually every college football QB was a winner at the HS level. But leading a team to a juco championship is a much stronger proof point than winning a HS championship. I especially like that he has a chip on his shoulder to prove how good he is to those who don't believe in him. He believes that he belongs at a top BCS school. If he completely dedicates himself to proving all the top BCS schools wrong in passing on him, he could become a beast of a QB in the MAC. He also believes that he can make it in the NFL. With the success of previous MAC QBs in the NFL, he knows that if he performs at the highest level for UA that he has a chance of being drafted. You never really know until it plays out on the field. But there's good reason to be optimistic about Moore.

I'm not sure the Zips would need Meves to beat Oakland, FAU, or Buffalo! OK so I don't get accused of hijacking the thread, I am really looking forward to seeing Clayton on the field. His presence here alone SHOULD make the spring game a lot more interesting.

Dr Z
I think our o-line and receivers will be better than last year (not a huge prediction, I know.) Whomever the QB is, will benefit. I still have PN7 penciled in until I see The Lone Ranger throw a ball in Akron.

A QB who hasn't played before throwing to three receivers who haven't played before. It's football not theoretical physics. This is easy stuff, they have months to practice their routes, so i'm not too worried about that. Plus neither of them are freshman.

zipinnc
But who will he throw to? When watching Clayton's 2010 highlight video, I kept thinking to myself "Where is this receiver (#1) going? He can get open and he can catch the ball!" I'm not saying that we don't need to upgrade at QB, but it's not the only opportunity for us to improve.
