Dave in Green
It was formally announced by the Big East when they released their 2011-12 schedule that ESPN will be televising the FIU-Louisville game. I believe that qualifies as a confirmed fact. My reasoned deduction is that when FIU was offered the opportunity to play Louisville live on ESPN instead of a non-televised game with the Zips that weekend that they politely asked if UA might be able to help them out by rescheduling the FIU-UA game. bcat51
A little bit of Bill Veeck in any of you Zips? MAC Football struggles with attendance--here's a way to add 5,000 for the game against the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday October 22nd. Pay expenses to have the Ohio University Marching 110 come and perform a full pre-game, half time and post game show. Of course this is somewhat of a slight to your students efforts inviting a visiting band and all, but 5,000 more fannies at your beautiful facility may be worth it. Can't's band came to Ohio two seasons ago and the two bands put on a very enjoyable post game show together; the Akron and Ohio bands can also put together an exciting and entertaining post game show. Now the 110 will not by itself bring in the additional Ohio fans to increase the attendance that much. The greater Cleveland area has a big Ohio Alumni following and more will come to watch their Bobcats if they know the band is there as well. Here's what you do to really boost the numbers, you invite every high school marching band in the area to come and perform with them. These band groupies love watching the 110. In Athens for the first home game every year they have band day. There will be a combination of nearly 1,000 high school and 110 members playing the National Anthem and one song at the half. Let these band kids in free or charge each band kid $5 bucks and the important thing is nearly 50% will have at least one parent that comes to watch it all--and perhaps even grandma and grandpa to see their kids on the field. These kids drink pop and eat refreshments like they are going out of style so get ready to ring the cash register at the concessions. Getting kids to come to a game is also a recruiting bonanza where Akron Admissions can leverage their visit with special information sessions and such. Ohio has invested lots of effort and PR in making the Marching 110 pretty well known as a college marching band and you can leverage their area appeal by getting people to your field to watch them perform. Bobcat Football has stepped out as the regular cellar dweller under Coach Solich and more alums are getting excited about them. However, a 3.5 hour trip to watch them if you are a causal fan isn't going to happen but a short trip to a beautiful venue with special tailgating privileges might get them out for a fun Saturday against conference foe University of Akron. Be creative; think outside the box and boost your attendance.

We have no desire to turn a Zips home game into a Quasi-OU home game.

I think every marketing avenue should be explored to get people in the seats next year, because it's going to be tough with our '10 record. I will make the first offer. I will buy coach Solich four 22's of his choice of beer at BW3's before the game. Looking forward to your counter offer...
Lee Adams
Ken+ at the end of the season is really the only thing that upsets me. Play that game no later than mid-October when both teams are still in some sort of contention, and we might get 20k or more. Playing that game in mid-November on possibly a cold and snowy day, and you might not get 10k. This isn't far enough to the end of the year, Can't should be the last game of the season. Rivalry games should always be that last game...ALWAYS. This isn't Ohio State vs. Michigan. In case you haven't noticed, we're struggling to draw fans for ANY game. The further you push this game towards the end of the season, the more likely you are to have a poor crowd for a matchup that would otherwise provide our only chance for a significant draw for as long as we remain a non-contending team. So what better than put our rival as the last home game?...that should draw more than usual to a game that no one would have went to. Also, attendance could be solved by removing the idiots in charge over at Athletics and actually winning a few games here and there. Agree, Can't should be the last game. Other homers should be in the evening.

Sorry you guys found my idea lacking and that I'll have to watch the game with less than 10,000 in your lovely house. On the other hand, here's hoping that the second high seeded catholic university in two years falls to the MAC representative in the first round. Congrats and best wishes. Don't know about ,idiots' in the AD but we all saw how fast the 'new stadium' effect wore off. Its funny how all the people here who thought the new place would bring in tons of people don't talk about that anymore. When the team ain't winning people i.e. students won't walk across the street to watch a game. As has been pointed out before even the consistently good teams in the MAC don't consistently draw large crowds. Hell, down at OU the kids can fall out of bed and be on the 40 yard line. Here if you win you will get more fans in the seats than at the Bowl. But, don't look for much improvement until they put a winner on the field. When? I found a couple in the few minutes I looked - didn't want to wast too much of my time!! If USD is early in the year, the newness of the stadium might keep attendance high and filled with people that couldn't get in on the season opener. The biggest boost will come from high school games, where the local community finally sees what we have, which might make them want to come back. i agree completely. I honestly dont see us having much of a problem filling this place up as long as we dont have a major meltdown and lose our first 3 or 4 games. I really do think it will draw better than many might expect in the current economic conditions, and draw some football fans who want to see some action while saving some coin. Poll precting avg attendance for 2009 - 1st year of new stadium: I voted for 20k-30k. The sad thing is, so much depends on the weather. A huge step for Zips football will be when it moves from being something to do when it's nice out to THE thing to do on Sat. (Reply to a Poll for predicting avg attendance for 1st year of new stadium) 20,000 the lack of marketing and advertising has been embarrasing. Everyone should be fully aware of the new stadium by this time and know when the opening game is. What else goes on in this city? People should be chomping at the bit for opening day. I voted 20-30k There will be increased attendance regardless of the performance of the team (within reason of course) because: The placement of this stadium will increase student attendance because it is a well known fact that a majority of the kids who now go to the RB are NOT commuters I think those of you who believe that the Zips won't WAY outdraw what they've pulled at the RB are nuts. It pisses me off. There will be tremendous change in "average Akron Metro area Joe" interest. At least for five years, as I mentioned in previous posts, going to InfoSumma will be "a thing." Ohh yes....a LOT of change will be happening on Exchange with the addition of the INFO I think Info will average 25k per game for the first 5 years
