FromdaBurgh Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Well...the day after is just as sweet as last night. I couldn't sleep thinking about, talking about and just trying to wrap my head around the fact that the ZIPS are going to the NCAA "Big Dance"! There are no words that can describe how I feel (as Zeke's mom) and as a basketball fan!!! Despite our moments of contention and "heated conversations"....I want to thank ALL OF U for supporting Zeke, even if in secret...encouraging him and just reminding him to continue strong! To be named MVP..was absolutely unexpected and both he and I were in shock! This entire ZIPS team deserves are respect, are accolades and are praise....there is nothing like pushing through adversity and coming out on top! Kudos to Steve McNeese, Nik, D-Rob, Rico, Q & especially Mike Bardo...you guys have made the 3,000+ miles I put on my car sooooo worth it!!!! See you at the Barley House!!! Quote

GP1 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 GCR44, I was in church this morning with my Akron Zips sweatshirt on and a guy came up to me who graduated a few years after me from UofA and said, "That was a great game last night." We had a real nice talk after church. Believe me, there are Zips fans all over America who are proud of what happened last night. What a great game that was! Quote
Dr Z Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 To be named MVP..was absolutely unexpected and both he and I were in shock!Well deserved. Congratulations. Quote

This is what it's all about IMHO. There's not doubt the rewards are much sweeter when the going has been difficult. I'm am so happy that Zeke and the team fought through the tough times and emerged victorious. That was the most enjoyable basketball game I have ever witnessed. Go Zips!!! Quote
zippy5 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Congrats, I bet someone is a really proud mama. Enjoy it! Quote
Zip_ME87 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Congratulation GC44 and to all of the players...I'm so happy for all of them (and us fans). Unfortunately, I won't be at the Watch Party today due to whatever crud I have...taking no chances on giving it to any of the team. Quote
Bull_In_Exile Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Ill add my congrats to this... Two tourney's in three years... Very nice! Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Awesome game by Zeke and the guys! Couldn't be prouder to be a UA alum last night! I hope Momma Zeke's next 3,000 miles are even better than the first 3k. Gotta get my dancin' shoes on! Quote
akronzips71 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Would you please feed that guy. I bet he would play even better if he ate at least twice a week! Still, pretty damn good for a "beanpole" to quote that azzclown from NBC. Quote
zipboy Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Thank you and to all of the Zips. The last 5 years have been the Golden era of Akron basketball and has made for many entertaining nights. Quote

Zipmeister Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 For anyone who didn't watch the game live on TV or taped, the broadcast was typical for a MAC game: a second-rate effort. The broadcast team did little or no research and mentioned the same facts enumerable times during the game. Fortunately, the KD / LeBron connection was only mentioned once (at least that's all I remember). However, we did hear, a disturbingly high number of times, that the two schools were only 14 miles apart, that the teams didn't like each other, that Akron had been to the last 5 championship games, that Can't State had been to a bunch of championship games over the last 13 years, that Akron and Can't State have been the two best programs in the MAC over the last decade, and that the MAC is an extremely competitive basketball conference (that's a nice way to put it). Listening to each of these facts once or twice a game would be OK. Listening to them over and over and over and over reeks of bush league. If ESPN is too lazy to do the research, The MAC should provide them with a longer and more diversified list of talking points. Go Zips. Quote

I think that everyone on the Earth now knows that Akron and Can't are exactly fourteen miles apart. I thought the team that did last weekend's ESPN game were much better. Kara Lawson really did her homework. Would like to hear her do more games. Geno Auriemma teaches 'em right. But, hey at least it wasn't Chones and Reghi, JC don'know what town he's even in man. Quote

Building may be doing your best with that collection of players. Doing your best may lead to winning, or it may not. Besides, to your point, at the end of the day it all comes down to which basketball offense you run.... put the ball in the hoop or don't put the ball in the hoop. Gee... I sure hope we chose the right one. Quote
Dave in Green Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Building is simply developing and growing. Building is a process of improving from not doing your best toward doing your best. Building is an ongoing process because humans never reach a stage of perfection. Building is preferable to the alternatives -- regression or stagnation. Quote

However, "as a crow flies," so-to-speak, it's only about half that. Quote
