Share some of your greatest memories from the JAR.

For me, Nate Linhart's putback to beat Ohio is up near the top. From start to finish that was one of the most exciting college basketball games I've ever seen.

Morehead St. in 1986. Only title won in the building.

ZW, that was MTSU [and fatboy Kerry Hammonds], I believe, and that gets my vote for same reson, with Nate's put-up just a hair less so. The nite we trapped Mouse McFadden was a great one too.

It was Middle Tennessee. But I agree with you, with one exception.

No better environment, or game.....ever....that can top the game against Cleveland State at the beginning of the following season. Both teams had just come off of an NCAA appearance. You had to be there an hour early just to get a seat in GA. People were sitting in the aisles and on the track before the game even started. We were on our feet the entire game, and it was an overtime contest.

Zip37....Nice to see that others were instantly reminded of this game as well.

Ah ... fond memories in the JAR ....

I agree that the win over Cleveland State before the largest crowd ever let in the place was the

greatest game. The "official" attendance is listed around 8,100. The actual attendance was

over 10,000. And, yes, the aisles were packed with people. The upper chair backs were not

yet installed, so many bodies were crammed in together. The police turned away over a 1,000

people; many holding pre-purchased reserved seats.

In that game the coaches had determined via watching film (not tape in those days) that McFadden

had trouble dribbling to his left (which later kept him out of the NBA). So, the player guarding

McFadden (several were used) shaded to his right forcing him to go left. Eventually he fouled

out of the game with his fifth foul being a frustration foul. It was a GREAT win for the Zips.

I have two personal favorite moments. One involves the afore mentioned Kerry Hammonds.

During the championship game between Akron and Middle Tennessee, Hammonds was guarded

by Doug Shutz and Chris Kelly (a Zips football player). During the first half Hammonds took the

liberty of laying a cheap shot on Doug Shutz sending "Shooter" to the hospital for stitches.

Shutz returned during the second half. As soon as he got back in the game during a momentary

lull in play Shutz hammered Hammonds a hard right to head. As Hammonds fell to the floor

the entire arena could hear Shutz yell at Hammonds. "I'm NOT Chris Kelly, you son of a bitch".

A technical foul was assessed and play continued. No one was ejected.

My other favorite JAR moment was more personal to me. I attended a game with a dear friend

of mine. Bill "Moon" Strickland, the well known owner of Moon's after hours bar on Rhodes Ave.

Moon was about seventy at this time. As the national anthem was being played it was popular

among the black students to sit with their hats on during the playing of the anthem.

"Moon" being a black combat veteran of World War 2 took this personal. He walked down a

couple of rows and grabbed two black students up out of their seats by their shirt collars. He

then gave them "what for" on account of their lack of respect. He was visibly crying as he told

them that many of his own black friends DIED in the war so they could have the privilege

of attending a basketball game.

People clapped and cheered Moon as he came back to his seat. Many of the black students in

attendance that night came over to Moon and expressed their apology's INCLUDING the two

kids he hoisted. Moon was a DAMNED good friend of mine. He died in 1985. I was a pall

bearer for him. I'm white; not that it matters. That was the last time in my life that I cried

as I helped honor Bill "Moon" Strickland by carrying his body.

The triple overtime Xavier game, where Ali Kart missed the wide open 10ft bank shot for the win comes to mind.

Anthony Stacey, Brandon Hunter and Jose Davis's Hipsher-killing daggers are also permanently etched in my brain.

Kyrem Massey's elbow to the face of Jamie Bosley at center court was a gem.

Jimmal Ball vs. Earl Boykins was cool.

Bryan Hipsher breaking his 0-29 streak of 3-pointers

The debut of 20ppg, 20rpg recruit Neerim Djemboli was a can't miss (if you blinked, you missed it).

The McFadden vs. McLaughlin game was the most electric game in the history of the JAR.

I saw Prong open up for Ozzy back in 1990...that was cool.

Bud Light Daredevils and the Red Panda unicyclists were always a winning halftime show.

People still talk about my 13-point intramural outburst against The Storm Troopers of Death.

And who can forget the Milliken game?

Any of the Can't State games that we have won. Those games are always intense and each one has a special twist to it. Also, the O-Who game when Linhart tipped it in with a few seconds left on the clock.

Halloween 1993 by far number 1. Unfortunately, I didn't even know I was going until an hour before the show.

Xavier/Akron game a distant second. Motor City Madman was somewhere around 2b.

LeBron James receiving his awar-just kidding.

Actually that second one reminds me, I think one of the greatest JAR moments was the celebration for the soccer team being :NCAAC:

Oh last one (I think): My Human Rights in International Politics class (JAR basement  ) where I made a certain 6'8" Serbian classmate of mine upset by mocking him on the attendance sheet. On the first day of class he wrote his name in English and then in Serbian in parenthesis and so when it came my way I saw that and did the same thing with English and Arabic. When the sheet made it back to him, he asked Yazan Ahmad to identify himself, and I didn't. He said "Oh well that guy is a copycat." I thought I was in the clear until the professor asked us each to go around and introduce ourselves. His nickname for me after that was "copycat." Yeah that's right, copycat.

When did this happen? I never heard of that.

Hilltopper exaggerates a bit, but the Andrick-Hipsher steel cage match is well-know to be the point where Thunder Dan jumped the shark.

I agree. Dan went from being a loud, barking coach to being a dick.

Stacey looked like Barkley in the second half that day. Did he have 30 after halftime?

Hey I just graduated and attended almost every home game while I was in school, why is this the first time I have seen this masterpiece?
