Here is a list of players who were signed last year but who are not on the GoZips.com roster.

DL William Houst

DE Arlington McClinton

OL Curtis Black

LB Darryl Waters

DE Jason Stargel

WR Josh Smith

S Ben Cunningham

OL Kevin Mills

Does anyone have any info on these guys?

I'm glad someone else is trying

I think I've tried to ask this question at least 3 times before, but the only information offered so far (and it's old) is that McClinton was supposedly enrolled per a student who posts here (I forget the user name). I was thinking about calling Joe Dunn's show on 1350 am to ask if he knows anything.

I'll have to ask coach if he thinks WPA talent "is not what it used to be", or are we just missing out.

I would bet the talent in western Pennsylvania is neither better or worse than it used to be. My guess is the game is different than it used to be and doesn't lend itself to slow footed players, with the exception of a few great players (there are great players everywhere). If western Pennsylvania talent was as good as they tell us it is, Pitt and PSU wouldn't be as unbelievably average, at best, as they have been the past 20 years.

Yinzers like to say things like, "Look at all the NFL players we produce." That's great, but what about the rest?

Two other Pitt redshirt freshmen, linebacker Jason Frimpong of Irving, Texas, and defensive back Roderick Ryles of Orlando, Fla., have left the team and been given permission to transfer. Neither played this season, but Frimpong was competing for a starting job at outside linebacker in training camp. All three players were part of the former coach Todd Graham's 2011 recruiting class. Eight players from that 21-man class have left the team or been dismissed

Anyone know why this player isn't getting any serious looks? Zero offers from what I can see.

Israel Green, Trotwood-Madison (Trotwood, Ohio)

The 5-foot-9, 200-pound junior running back helped the Rams cap a 15-0 season with a Division II state title by producing a record-breaking game.

The Rams, who finished state runner-up in 2010, defeated Avon (Avon, Ohio) 42-28 as Green set an all-division title game record of six touchdowns while rushing 35 times for a Division II finals' record of 326 yards -- second best for all divisions. He scored four touchdowns in the first half and added the final two in the third quarter.

Green ended the season with 2,085 yards and 27 touchdowns on 222 carries and could be one of the top college prospects among Ohio running backs next season.

In addition to this honor for Green, the Rams were deemed as a worthy FAB 50 program with the No. 42 ranking.

After the Toledo loss, Bowden stated (regarding recruiting): "We need a #1. We held back jersey #1 this year because we didn't feel there was anyone who really could fill it. That's our biggest priority this recruiting season...getting us someone to wear #1."

The next morning in the PD was a feature on Kirtland's #1 Damon Washington. Coincidence?

I can answer that for you. NO. He doesn't know anything so do not waste your time.

Funny you should say this, because as I considered calling in today I simply couldn't get past the hypothetical discussion of an ND-OSU national championship game I was subjected to for most of my ride home. That took away any desire I had to break into the conversation with my silly little Zips question. I guess I'll wait for the spring game to see if any of these guys are still with the team :wall:

If he could lose 25 pounds we might recruit him as a cornerback.

You hit the nail on the head with how I often feel discussing the Zips. It's (one of) my (few) passions and I wish the Akron community would have more of a personal identity with UA instead of always looking to Cleveland and Columbus, but I often feel like a nut job bringing up the Zips, when OSU is always in national title consideration. Frustrating.

What frustrates me the most is that if you or I were to bring up the Zips, OSU fans would most likely make fun of us. But honestly what gives them the right? I'd rather sit and watch MY SCHOOL win 1 game a year, than act like them and claim to be a fan of a school they don't attend.

Here is the apparent answer on at least one of them. I will do some checking on the rest of your list soon.

Apparently Darryl Waters ended up at Lamar U.

Did some digging around on twitter, so take this for what it's worth...Benny Cunningham, Arlington McClinton, and Curtis Black all still list themselves as students at Akron and Josh Smith says he will be there on Jan 8 (I assume that's the start of the spring semester). Reading some of Cunningham's tweets, it sounds like he is recovering from an injury, so maybe it was similar to the situation that D'Orazio went through. Hard to say how accurate twitter information is, but it would explain why the incoming recruiting class is expected to be so small.

Thanks, Roo2! Retaining both McClinton and Black could be huge because they address areas of need. Maybe Coach Bowden will expound on this during his season ending press conference (assuming he's having one).

This is something I am paraphrasing from the Marshall board but I thought it would work pretty well here too.

If you see someone wearing an Akron shirt they probably went to Akron. If you see someone wearing an OSU shirt, they probably went to Wal-Mart.
