I read this quote today in the Beacon Journal, and it got me wondering what ZN thinks. Feel free to comment below.

“The commitment I’ve made to any place I’ve gone is I was going to work every day like I was going to be there forever,” he said.

“So my commitment to the University of Akron, I’m going to work like this is the last place I’ll ever work."

The quote is at the bottom of this article

If I could just choose 5 years, I would. Thats how long the vest has to wait before he can really coach again and if thats what he truly wants to do, he'll just wait it out here.

If he's truly heading into a career as an administrator, then Id say a little less. Anyone else see this hire and think that if things with YouTubeTom moves on, he'd be a prime candidate?

I think what he said is just what I would hope anyone who has a job feels about their job. I think he brings a lot to the table and UA should count their blessings that he chose to continue his career at UA. Why don't you just say that you don't like the fact the UA hired Tressel instead of all this dancing around the subject. :)

This is what I am suspecting. After five years he'll be our next AD. The good news is that we've got Jim Tressel while he's hot. After three or five years away from Columbus State football, he'll most likely be a bit more irrelevant than he is presently. Especially if Urban Meyer is successful, your average Ohioan will move on. So we've got Jim at the best possible time.

Let's hope Urban Meyer fails miserably then.

Ah, it feels good to say that one again.

If Tressel is the AD in waiting, I think there will have to be someone else in that position between TW and Tressel. I do not see TW getting 5 more years.

I cannot agree with that statement enough! I have been a Gator-Hater for my entire life; and didn't think I could ever dislike anyone more than Steve "Superior"... But was proven wrong with Urban Liar :). I personally think his "health issues" a couple years ago (when he "retired" the first time for about 2 months) was actually a tantrum in response to him not getting the Notre Dame job. He had said on a sports radio station in Miami about 3-4 years ago that ND was his "dream job".

But I digress - i think it is entirely possible that Urban doesn't do well at OSU. Losing Dan Mullen just might prove to be his downfall and "expose" his weaknesses. Then, people will be constantly comparing him to JT - who will be where? Oh yeah.... With us at Akron :)

I put in between 1-2 years. I don't see this job keeping his interest for long. Basically, we are paying him $200,000 per year for the use of his name and not really what he can do.

umm what? He has a name. His job is to raise money. He is going to have more success than "Joe Akron" at raising money. He is one of the most influential people in Ohio

Also, FWIW, Bowden basically said the same exact thing when he was hired. Where is the thread about how long he will be here?

Having Tressel (Bowden as well) is great for the University. Who cares where he has been or what he has done. Get over it and be glad.

Dr Z, I get exactly what you mean about Jim Tressel belonging in Youngstown. Despite the fact that he got his master's degree at UA, despite the fact that he was a graduate assistant at UA and despite the fact that he devoted the last two years of his life working for the success of UA students, there were always going to be a number of people associated with UA who thought he's not one of us, he's one of them.
