2012 Zips Tailgating Beer List

Like last season, we will track the different beers consumed on Zips game day. Hopefully we can top last year's total. Ex-pats are welcome to submit beers, as long as they are drinking them while listening to, or watching the Zips games. I.e.: If you had a beer while watching Ohio State from your couch...it doesn't apply here.

No drinks besides beer will be added. If the kids want to begin a 2012 root beer list, I'm happy to keep track.

Id like to propose a committee and awards be given out at the end of the season. Sort of like the Espys, but we could call it the Drunkys. You can establish your own categories, but some ideas are.

1. Volume Award...Most beer consumed before a game.

2. Goat Award (because a goat will eat anything)....Worst micro beer a person got drunk on, knows the beer was bad, but wont admit the beer was bad.

3. Wobbles Award.....Fan voted most likely to pass out before the end of the game, but made it to the end.

4. Fire Hydrant Award....First to vomit.

5. Clueless Award....Worst home brewer who doesnt know he is a bad home brewer.

6. Holding Out Hope Award....Home brewer who knows his beer is bad and thinks he can get better at it even though everyone else knows he wont.

7. Mr./Ms. Congeniality of Lot 9....Guy who drank every drop of bad beer he was given by other because he is too good of a guy to throw it away in front of the person who gave it to him.

8. Etc.

If you guys count soccer tailgates , I had the following for the Florida Gulf Coast tailgate:

Southern Tier Pumking, 1x 64 ounce growler (drank half, shared half), 2 x 22 ounce bottles

Hoppin Frog's Hollow Double Pumpkin Ale. 1x 22 ounce bottle

Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout, 1x 22 ounce bottle

I was drunk and my soccer jersey has beer stains all over it now.

Thanks to JZ84 for hooking me up with a Bell's Cherry Stout. Very different from what I expected. All tart cherry upfront followed by chocolaty and bitter finish. Quite good.

I also had the very best "Hot Apple Pie" of all time, some absolutely delicious brisket & a buffalo chicken spicy dip that was out of this world. Good job to the Akron tailgaters.

It was like a cross between an IPA and a Witbier. I liked it a lot. Come to think of it, I believe Sam Adams (not usually a huge fan) has a similar hybrid in their Whitewater IPA which I enjoyed earlier in the summer.

Kudos to the fine folks that fed me the biggest shrimp I have ever seen. Delicious. They also served up a mean cream cheese iced pumpkin bar! Thank you! (Not sure if they are on the board or not. Forgot to ask. )
