We're now going to lose to John Carroll too? Yep disappointing, and I expect that probably means a loss to OKST now (but I do think the Zips can win the other two), too tough to integrate that many new players that fast when you don't have your veterans, screws too much with team chemistry. But the ship will get righted and the Zips will be fine. So maybe a top 25 dream is still not realistic, OK. CCU was ranked 27th just 2 seasons and our two star guards were starters on that team. We have a good shot of winning the Big South, and with 7 new players nobody is going to know how good we can be this year. To say we are not a good team is not true, and we looked like the better team most of the night last night. I think you guys will be fine, and end up having a great season, and still have a shot of winning the MAC. We will be your biggest fans from now on out. The best we can hope for is for CC to win the Big South this year and do really well the rest of the year. They are picked to finish either 1st or 2nd in their league. Before Friday's game i would have said we would finish around 2 or 3 in our division. But after seeing how our 7 new players fit in with the current team i think that we have a legit chance to win the Big South. Also for those that are bashing Coastal our star guards Greenwood, and Raffa were also stars on the our team 2 years ago that was ranked as high as 27th in the nation. We really are not as bad as some on here think. You guys will be fine this year and i still think you have a good chance to win the MAC. We will be some of your biggest fans this year. The quality of the Big South isn't near the quality of the MAC. In fact, it is a terrible league. I would be surprised if CCU finished in the top two spots of the MAC East if they were in our division. A close loss to CCU, if they win their conference, will not even enter the minds of the selection committee. It's MAC Championship or bust for the Zips this year. This was one of the worst game I've seen KD coach. The zips were faster, stronger, and bigger than CCU and KD countered with nothing utilizing that advantage. You live by the three and you die by the three. I also disagree with the statement that the freshmen almost pulled the game out (they didn't). I saw a group of very entitled players giving the green light who was pushed in over their heads. I agree that you are paying KD entirely too much for a humiliating coaching effort. The team shot the ball poorly from the go and instead of KD recognizing it and make changes he just continued with the same game plan. Thats what made him such a horrible coach. A simple counter of putting the two bigs on the block at the same time a pound the ball inside all night long while having the point guards and wings attack the rim. Notice: Chauncey is not just a streaky spot shooter but a multi dimensional offensive scorer why not opening your eyes to see that... I disagree. The Zips have to make outside shots against pressure all season this year. The one thing CCU did really well Friday was getting back on defense. Any team that thinks they are going to get a lot of offensive rebounds with Zeke in the middle is playing a losing game against the Zips. Zeke went 3-5 shooting Friday. On the surface, that looks like a really good stat. Is it? Is 60% good or is the fact that Zeke only took five shots a problem. Only numbers 12, 4 and 34 took fewer shots out of the nine who played. He made lots of foul shots, but he almost never gets a basket plus one. That's part of the the next level everyone wants to see....Zeke making freakishly good offensive plays around the basket and dunking on the crap that is MAC big men. Lots of people say Zeke needs to get aggressive on the offensive end. He needs to do one thing first though. He needs to get comfortable. I've never seen a four year starting center look as uncomfortable with the ball in his hands as Zeke did Friday. 34 looks more comfortable with the ball in his hands than Zeke, but he has a ways to go in other areas. It's a shame some people probably think differently because someone is on here on his behalf complaining all the time. This isn't high school basketball anymore, annoying parents/family members sound even worse when it comes to D-1 athletics. Dave in Green Posted November 13, 2012 Report Share Posted November 13, 2012 For those who watched Rico in the CCU game and thought his ankle was "OK," KD said otherwise tonight. KD said that Rico's ankle sprain was a bad one and that he has been on light practice for the last 2 1/2 weeks. He said that in the CCU game and tonight against JCU the still injured ankle prevented Rico from going at full speed or playing extended minutes, and that he was having a lot of trouble moving on both offense and defense. As I said earlier, the Zips team performance suffered last season when Rico's knee was injured, and the same thing is going on now with Rico's ankle. I'm sure the adrenaline will kick in when Rico plays in front of the home crowd at the tournament in PR. But he will not be at full speed. It was obvious that he was half a step slow and could not elevate to his usual soaring height on his drives to the bucket. I thought he played a good game off the bench considering he's obviously not at 100%. Both Chauncey and Rico deserve a lot of credit for playing hurt and still looking good enough that a lot of fans can't even tell that they're injured. He plays offense and defense well enough to earn the second spot in the rotation for point guard. Looks at this point that Carmelo Betancourt will be given time to improve in practice over playing time. Melo will get plenty of minutes against Oklahoma State simply because Rico is still hurting. However, Deji may get the start. KD tends to be really loyal to his seniors. Thus, it is not in Chauncey's best interest for his Dad to rank on the coach. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Chauncey has an entire season to play and display his talents. He has competition in the form of Jake Kretzer. Jake is a really talented freshman that is currently playing the four. Jake's natural position is the three (small forward). All Chauncey needs to do is play within himself. Chauncey is a darn good player.
