taxpayer
This should be one of the more entertaining games of the year. We go 10 deep; they go 10 deep. We owe them for the butt kicking they gave us at their place last year. A sold out JAR would help them build on the momentum coming off the PR Tip Off. But it would be nice...and deserved for this team.
skip-zip
Agreed. Sunday afternoon? Unrecognizable team? Non-conference game? Only the diehards will be pumped for this one, and are the only ones that will remember the beating we took at their place last year. We still might hit 3k, but would have to hope for MTSU to be a perennial power before we could draw much more for a home game with them. taxpayer
We have a sorry state of affairs if the above comments are accurate. With attendance historically low, who is ever going to invest millions in a facility for a program that can't draw 3000 people consistently. I agree the JAR's design is terrible but there are other significant issues when the student population if over 20,000 and less than 5% of them show up for a decent basketball game involving their university. Especially when all you have to do is show an ID to get in. Thank God for the program's boosters!

OZoner
Akron built a new football stadium despite not having great attendance. Alabama State just dropped I think $62 million on a new stadium. I doubt they're threatening Michigan's attendance. The Miami Marlins built a new stadium and everyone hates them. Your choice. True fans find a way. You can beat your chest about TRUE FANS (of which there are very few) or you can accept reality and try to make your product as accessible as possible. zippyfan34
Brownies play the late game Sunday so barring overtime and where you live, you can catch the game and make it back home in time for kickoff or close to it. Just DVR it and you will be caught up midway through the first quarter.

It IS a sorry state of affairs, and very frustrating to those of us who have supported this program for years. I don't get it either. And let me correct your math. If 5% of 20,000 students show up, that puts us at 1,000 students per game, and I don't think 1,000 students have even shown up for any single Akron basketball game other than Ken+ since the 80s. As Slick Willy Clinton would say, "I feel your pain" We have a program that shots itself in the foot every year. How much hype/optimism was there for this season? What did the team do? A terrible start losing to Coastal Carolina, and Ok State. While Ok State is a very good team, we should have beat them. Students and the public don't care that we should be 5-0 right now, they only care about the record. Soccer has show what students care about, winning, being on the national stage, national tournaments, national rankings, MAC tournament titles. Every year the season comes down to the MAC tournament and the students know that. You have to get people excited before they will show up and winning is all that matters. "Almost winning" doesn't mean crap! Also remember the Zips have shown a pattern of winning a big game, then laying an egg at home. They unfortunately cannot seem to find a way to carry momentum for one game to another to get positive energy around the program.

They unfortunately cannot seem to find a way to carry momentum for one game to another to get positive energy around the program. I'm a little concerned of the opposite of this happening. A lot of people are talking about the Creighton matchup but MTSU is no slouch on the hard wood as we found out last year. Hopefully the team isn't looking forward and passed the Blue Raiders. MTSU is currently 4-1 with their only loss being a 20 point drubbing @#10 Florida. They also still have to play in Louisiana on Thursday before the trek to Akron. ZachTheZip
I don't think the team will look past MTSU. It will be two weeks since their last game. They would be ready to go no matter who they were playing.
Dave in Green
Saturday tends to be better than Sunday, especially while the NFL is still in season. Not for those who are big college football fans. Let's face it, the world is full of multitudes of conflicting events. We all have to look at everything that's available and prioritize. College basketball games on Sunday, Saturday, or any evening during the week will not cause major problems for those who place a higher priority on college basketball than all the competing events. For those who assign a lower priority to college basketball than other events, there will always be insurmountable conflicts.

RowdyZip
Searched around and the most active MTSU boards I could find were over on SCOUT. It appears none of them think Akron is a threat. Interesting take...
