New Jerseys for OU game

I actually emailed them regarding this and was told to "talk to the bookstore". When i asked what that meant, they basically said i should call the bookstore and ask them to stock more basketball stuff, completely dodging my question on how i could get an official replica jersey. I don't understand why they don't sell replica and/or authentic jerseys at games? Plenty of people (like me) would buy both the shorts and the jersey. This has been a problem for years now.

If only it could be as easy as it was to get a Zips hockey jersey:

Oh yeah, and look, GOLD!

The bookstore holds the rights to sell all merchandise at games. That's probably why they told you that.

The game issue is one thing, but I just want to purchase a uniform from the athletic department directly.

They can give them out to media outlets but the average person can't buy one?! That seems odd.

Jay Bilas tweeted about it, CBS Sports has picked it up. Certainly getting the word out there. Interesting comment from the author: "These are really good mid-major teams. The basketball's enough, but then again, I'm not writing about this game unless someone drums up this kind of idea."

Pat Forde also mentioned the Zips OU game (and later talked about the NIU futility but didn't mention they were part of the MAC, thank goodness).

Ohio at Akron (14). Saturday, 5 ET. Both teams are unbeaten in Mid-American Conference play. If there is any chance for the MAC to be a two-bid league, these are the only potential contenders for an at-large. There is some rivalry here: Ohio snatched the NCAA bid by a point in the MAC tourney final last year and went on to reach the Sweet 16, while the Zips were consigned to the NIT.

And finally, ESPN's Back to the Basket mentions the Zips-Bobcat's tilt. One commenter even wanted to know why the Zips weren't getting any top 25 votes.

Akron, Ohio (Ohio at Akron): MACtion lives! On Saturday, Ohio held on to a nail-biting one-point win over Can't State, while Akron had to rally from a 20-point deficit -- outscoring Buffalo 25-9 over the final 10 minutes of the game -- to eek out a 68-64 win at home. Those dual saves improved both teams to 6-0 in league play as they get ready to duke it out on Akron's home floor. Never sleep on MACtion, people.

Best story yet. Lead paragraph "I think every school in the country should consult Akron for future marketing efforts."
Dude needs to do his research. I like the photos...and his recap.

So let’s recap here:

1. Akron moves forward with a cool idea to put Twitter handles on the back of its jerseys.

2. NCAA says “maybe” so the Zips show off the jersey, assuming that the NCAA will ultimately approve it.

3. NCAA pulls the plug on the fun because that’s what it does.

4. Akron puts out a statement about the NCAA denying its request, while generating even more hype for the concept. A good idea.

Horrible uniforms. Love the Zips and what the school is trying to do with promoting the U of A, but this is the worst idea!

Why black? Why the Z? I have a really good idea for a "different" jersey for the basketball team.....How about use one that has blue & gold? You know, the schools colors!

"The Bilastrator is a Zip! Hey, Zeke Marshall, you're setting screens for me! Coach D, if you want to win, put me in!"

Mama Zeke, you beat me to it :P

Picture tweeted today had "@ZipsMBB" on the back. Not really a fan. I get that it's social media night but the twitter handle would get more exposure on the floor as opposed to the back of jerseys. I'm interested to see if they really see a jump in followers. Currently at 1,455.
Added 175 followers to 1,630 in three days. Marketing has more BS numbers than sports, but I'm ready to say that for the money put in, this is one of Akron sports marketing's better ideas. Well done. Ride this one, don't stop. The black is starting to grow on me. Should they offer customized ones now? @ZipsNation, @DrZ, @ZekeFan, @ZipsWin....

Hey MES102 did you see THIS TWEET by Jay:

LOVE..LOVE..LOVE JAY BILAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOM!!! hahahahhaaaaaaaa.....

Yes I did...Thought it was great he's ripping on Ohio all of a sudden...However, if you look at ESPN main site, Bilas has Cooper as the "best passer in NCAAB"...

Which tells me he will be trying to catch the Ohio-Akron game on ESPNU, and him getting a jersey means he most likely will now!
