I think the 6 wins is very doable and here is why:

Thu, Aug 29 at UCF 7:00 pm

They have had a lot of chasos down there this offseason, so IMO, this went from a loss, to a question mark. L

Sat, Sep 7 James Madison 6:00 pm

Its there ATM game, the question will be, will anyone be there to see it? W

Sat, Sep 14 at (24) Michigan 12:00 pm

It is what it is on this one. They will NEVER let another App. State happen ever again. L

Sat, Sep 21 Louisiana-Lafayette 6:00 pm

Go on their message boards and see all of the trash talking that they are doing. In there defense, they are King Kong, but it's being King Kong in the Sun Belt. With all of the FCS callups, they better win at least 8 games, however, Akron will not be one of them. W

Sat, Sep 28 at Bowling Green

This is probably the most interesting game for me this season. Assuming that they are good as people say they are. Defense will be the deciding factor. Not there yet, hower the ball could bounce the right way. L

Sat, Oct 5 Ohio 2:00 pm

Their run might be over. This will be one of the two sellouts this season and it will be rocking for this game. The bobcats play Austin Peay before the Zips. They will win big in that one, but overconfidence is a killer for them. W

Sat, Oct 12 at Northern Illinois 5:00 pm

Did you know assuming that if they beat Iowa and Purdue, they could be undefeated at this point in the season? If that happens, it will be bad news. L

Sat, Oct 19 at Miami (OH)

Let's face it: Miami is bad, really bad. IMO, that was a win last season. Miami will be one of the worst teams in the country this season. W

Sat, Oct 26 Ball State 12:00 pm

My personal sleeper game. This would be the Zips shootout game this season. However, not there yet. L

Sat, Nov 2 Can't State 3:30 pm

Talk about getting lucky last year. Yes I know that they were good last year, however a blind dog will find the bone once in a while. Wagon Wheel, Sellout crowd all the makings for a win. Sorry Can't fans, but Can't will be back to being, well, Can't State this season. W

Sat, Nov 16 at Massachusetts 1:00 pm

Last year, this loss should have never had happen. Not this year. W

Fri, Nov 29 Toledo

Black Friday!? ESPN will make them play this game at 10am and that will not be a good sign. I have said for years that Never count Toledo out of anything. L

Simple as that 6-6, but it could be 8-4. After all, this is the MAC

The only chance we have at selling 1 game out this year is if we are 3-0, coming off a win at Michigan, playing ULL. Even that wont happen because they wont bring any fans. Maybe if we are undefeated until the Can't game. That is about it.

With all due respect to App State, we are not an FCS team. I expect far more from us than them in any given year.

I should have worded that better. I meant by completely looking past a team.

Regardless, I wasn't going to say it first, but I believe the UCF game is winnable game also. I just wasn't going to be the first to say it.

This game is one of my "extra wins" this season.

It's probably not completely updated, but ESPN currently lists 14 App State players in the NFL. Just like the Big 5 shouldn't underestimate the MAC, you shouldn't underestimate the FCS.

I wasn't underestimating them, they are a fantastic FCS team, If Akron, or any other team in the MAC played the entire Southern conference, I would expect at least a 7-2 record. That's not disrespect, the FCS has fine players in it, just not enough to compete regularly with the FBS.

At the south end of campus sits the gleaming but nearly empty InfoCision Stadium, a four-year-old, $61.6 million albatross that represents the university’s biggest miscalculation in a decade. (A close second would be the hiring of football coach Rob Ianello, responsible for starting the one-win trend.)

I care more what coach says rather than Marla. For example, I like this quote:

“You need a difference-maker,” he said. “A bunch of guys who overachieve and a couple stars. Then you’ve got to get some luck. Luck seems to go with teams that play well.” Bowden hopes he has found a clone of Can't State’s Dri Archer in Fransohn Bickley, a 5-foot-6, 138-pound freshman receiver from St. Vincent-St. Mary. “He’s a ‘Wow’ guy. We can’t touch him on the [practice] field,” Bowden said. “I keep thinking, ‘That’s going to look really neat against Michigan.’ He’s a fantastic fella, but he looks like he’s in junior high school.”

If Bickley is half as productive this year as Dri was last year, I'll be happy.

I need to clarify, K92. I don't agree at all with her swipe at the Info. I do agree that it's time to show some improvement, and I think TB accepts that.

It'll be very interesting to see how and when Bickley is used on Thursday night, if at all.

I knew that, JZ. I just couldn't let that one slide although the Info & Ianello are remarkably similar in one aspect. The Info is a recruiting tool and Ianello is a tool who recruits.

Well, she is right about the stadium. As a number of us said, building the new place wasn't in and of itself going to increase attendance or winning over time. Unfortunately, the history of this program since it went completely to DI has been, except for a few years pretty much a failure. In the next 2 years including this one this program has to get to the point where it can win at least 7 games consistently. This season is critical for the program. There is a lot of gambling by the staff on bringing in transfers to help out in the short term. Hopefully, the program does a 180 and can win 5 games. Next year with more of Bowden's recruits in the fold there has to be a 7 win season and competition for a MAC championship. While attendance will never be consistently good as has been shown historically, at least the program might have a shot at bowl games which will bring in more revenue and help recruiting.

This quote from Coach Bowden @ MAC Media Day keeps running through my mind:

I believe we’re going to make the biggest move in Akron football history at a time when the conference is playing its best football in MAC history

Surely, the coach has gone back and looked at year-by-year chart of Zips win/loss records and realizes that his statement means that he is expecting the Zips to win 5 more games this year for a total of 6 victories. The 6 most probable wins this year are: JMU, BG, OU, MU, Can't State & UMass. I know some a y'all think I'm crazy, but win these 6 and

What a ding-dong.

This makes me appreciate the coverage that GT does a lot more!!!! Keep up the good work GT, so we don't have to see too many of these articles about the Zips from others...

I agree Keener. That statement by her was dead wrong. Why even do this article if its being set up as a hit-job?

It's a mystery story. The story says the Zips should not still be playing in the Rubber Bowl, but InfoCision Stadium represents the university’s biggest miscalculation in a decade. The mystery is where would the Zips be playing if both of those sites are eliminated?

Posted

InfoCision cost a fraction of what most BCS stadium press box upgrades cost. $65 million is chump change in D1 football.

The worst miscalculation of the past 10 years was hiring Rob Ianello. If Bowden were hired 4 years ago, there would be no stadium conversations...except for the few clowns wondering what it would take to expand the stadium in order to keep him.
