Lee Adams
This is what happens. The Zips aren't being aggressive on offense. We needed to score and now we are going to fall behind 2 possessions... Whoever is calling the plays cost us the game. All the positive buzz around the Zips has been flushed down the toilet. Very embarrassing loss... Questionable play calling through out(is that Bowden or the guy in the box?) and a QB who isn't finding open receivers and missing too many throws. Doesn't look like there is any help at that position. Offense isn't what it was last year. Defense actually looks competent. Maybe 2 more wins this year with some breaks. dre22era
yeah this is way more embarrassing than losing to Gardner Webb. Idiot. the nerve of you calling him an idiot when he is 100% correct. This loss is embarrassing. Its pretty sad when we start giving Sun Belt Conference teams a pass putting them above us. We caught the nation's attention last week only to go back to being embarrassed on our field this week. For the record I am a proud alumni and booster. But the truth is the truth. I am highly disappointed
you am i
I guess we're at the "lose small" phase of the rebuilding process. On the positive side, the last three games have been exciting all the way to the end. As a fan, I remember the bad old days from not so long ago, suffering through one boring embarrassing loss after another. We haven't turned the corner yet, but I don't think that is far away. I'm watching Michigan struggle against UConn in the 3rd quarter on ABC. There have been quite a few references to the Akron game.
Dave in Green
The better team won tonight. But they didn't win easily. The Ragin' Cajuns came in 8-point favorites on the road, and their fans understand when the game ended that they were a bounce of the ball away from losing. Louisiana fans have shown respect for the Zips on this forum, and we Zips fans should have the class to return that respect in kind.

A disappointing loss, but at some point everyone needs to realize the reality of where our program is. We're improving, but still near the bottom of Division I, or whatever you want to call it. Things are moving in the right direction. Pohl will continue to improve over the next few years. D finally getting better. But we have a long way to go. I see you guys winning some games this year. I also look forward to the game two years from now when the Zips come to Cajun Field. To the surprise of some, we are not "Lafayette City College". The Cajuns have won two bowl games in a row against the Mountain West and Conference USA for a reason. Akron has a solid team and they lost to a solid team in a close game. See you in a couple of years!
Buckzip
The team is looking better. However, the record still only shows 1 win. As much as I want to think the team will keep getting better, I then remind myself that all but Grice on the d-line are seniors. I wonder if Bowden can bring in some 5th year seniors again to build it back up. Other then Pittman, we don't have a lot of size on the d-line. The D could be really abad again next year. Yes, I know we are 1/3 into the season, and I am already looking at next year, but that's how I roll.
Spin
Louisiana won a bowl game last year. I don't know why anybody who claims to know college football would look down on them or be embarrassed by losing to them. They came in ranked higher than Ball State and Ohio. And K.e.n.t. That said, Akron was very much in this game but lost it themselves. The first quarter was an abortion. NO EXCUSE. Pohl overthrew way too many passes, The play calling was horrid, when a play didn't work, we went right back to it again. The defense acted like they had never seen a QB tuck and run before. But, we were still in the game until the end. Against a team the same quality as Ball State and Ohio. It doesn't get any easier. The next three games are also against teams that went to bowl games last year. And we can be in them too, IF we remember the game starts at the beginning of the FIRST quarter, not the second quarter. If KP can throw passes to receivers, not over them. And IF the playcalling on offense improves. If they can get one or two of those areas straight, I see us beating Miami, K.e.n.t, and UMass. Four wins. We haven't done that since 2007. If they can get it all together, we might sniff .500. That is a very very big IF.
ZachTheZip
Louisiana won a bowl game last year. I don't know why anybody who claims to know college football would look down on them or be embarrassed by losing to them. It's not about them. It's about AKRON. It's embarrassing because we're beating ourselves. We have the talent to play with nearly anyone, and we're losing because we don't know how to do anything else. skip-zip
Blitzing by the D has been a disaster!!!!!!!!! We needed to try to get to that QB, but they just countered by starting to roll him out. Just another instance where we were outcoached and outwitted in this one. UA1987
Akron did seem to be going through the motions early, even as early as pre-game warm-ups. Louisiana was going through pre-game with emotion and some of our team seemed to be doing stretches halfway, with too much milling around and not enough of a sense of urgency, despite one of our coaches blowing his whistle like Sergeant Carter. As a result, I was concerned with 45 minutes to go before the game start. Still, all in all, it was a great game to watch. As all of you know that went to the Info, the game turned on the late disguised gambling on-side kick by the Cajuns. I do think you have to hang this partly on our special teams coaches, unless, unknown to me, they alerted our receiving team to be aware prior to the kick (Cajun coaches must have spotted on film that the front line on our kick receiving team was retreating to block without watching for a squib kick). A bit of a downer to wake up with an L in a game that was close, but we are way ahead where we were in 2010 and 2011, so I expect Coach Bowden and this team to give the ZipsNation more reasons to believe in the next two months. For the record I am a proud alumni and booster. But the truth is the truth. I am highly disappointed I don't see losing by five points to a team that has been to, and won, bowls the last two seasons as embarrassing when in that same time frame we are 2-22. It doesn't matter if they are Sun Belt, MAC, C-USA, or whatever. It may be true that the MAC is better overall than the Sun Belt but a title contender in that league against a MAC school that is picked somewhere between 10th and 12th in the conference should still be favored to win. I think maybe you just don't understand how successful of a program the Cajuns have been recently. That being said I do think the Zips are underrated. I still can see another 3-4 wins being quite possible despite the MAC schedule makers being less than hospitable.
Dr Z
Sloppy game offensively. We gave that one away. Among many of my questions, the one I can't get out of my head this morning. Why did we take the long pass to LT Smith out of the game plan that was so effective last week? I don't know the numbers but MTB got tons of snaps last night, LT did not. If you check the box score, both had the same numbers. Dictate your offense game plan until someone stops it, don't react to what may happen. Our game plan was too reactionary. Offensive play calling is an article that is dying to be written by a newspaper writer that has access to answers, to the proper questions IMO. johnnyzip84
Post-Lousiana snippets: 1. Broadway is simply a fantastic spread QB. 2. The Cajun WR Robinson (#15) is outstanding. 3. Louisiana ~ Michigan 4. The Cajuns scouted D’Orazio well, taking away the intermediate routes early (factoring into the early picks). TB/AJM adjusted with the nice deep ball over the top. ZD11 has enough speed to make aggressive teams pay, so I hope we see more of that down the road. 5. Not being able to recover at least one of the three forced fumbles (especially the patented strip by Capi) was a big opportunity lost. This could have offset the early picks. 6. As everyone has noted, the onside kick call by Hudspeth was a great call, more than making up for a few odd decisions earlier (fake FG comes to mind). I think part of his motivation was a sense that momentum was slowly turning towards the Zips, and that the UA offense was beginning to click. How many quality opponents have been forced into making such decisions at the Info the last few years? 7. Besides the onside kick, the stumble by TW22 when it looked like he had a certain 1st down was also a huge play. 8. KP16 looked like he may have dinged his ankle during the 20 yard scramble late. I really hope he is OK, since NH15 (nor DF83) were in pads. 9. I thought RS48 would have a nice year, but so far it’s been a struggle (granted, most attempts have been 45+). This is somewhat troubling if you believe, as I do, that the Zips will be competitive in just about every game left on the schedule. He’s been pushing them left for some reason. Hopefully, he’ll get it straightened out soon. Maybe a game against BG will be just what the doctor ordered. 10. Good beer, great food, tough loss. We need to break the Lot 9 paradigm ASAP! Hilltopper
From my vantage point way up high, it appeared that ZD11 was open on crossing routes over the middle all day. For some reason KP16 didn't even look at him for most of the game, instead was focused on throwing to the sidelines.

And please don't start with the if you guys are so smart you would be coaches. Up in 212 there were a significant number of fans saying the same thing. And, when they finally did decide to run the post with D'Orazio,TD. ULaLa's safeties were playing halves. They were cheating from the hash marks out. The middle LB was fairly close to the line until they started looking middle. Play calling? QB?
Dr Z
Another victory for the Ragin' Cajuns NEW ORLEANS -- With Terrance Broadway toughing out the New Orleans Bowl with a cast on his broken right forearm, Louisiana-Lafayette figured its fortunes might hinge on whether its defense could make a few big plays BTW Can the poster that wrote about KP16 off season surgery give us an update? msee92
BTW Can the poster that wrote about KP16 off season surgery give us an update? Source I'm thinking the original poster was misinformed, and KP16 will not be undergoing any off season surgery. There were no indications of any injuries that severe, but a lot of indications of football season wear and tear that should (hopefully) heal with time off. Throw tomatoes if you have info to the contrary........
