Fire Bowden

Jeff Bowden, that is. Aside from Zips MVP Zach Paul, special teams has been awful at best, and an abomination at worst. Is there nobody on the roster with enough sense to call a fair catch when you have three guys bearing down on you looking to pancake your ass into the ground? Is there anybody else that is willing to man up and block those guys? Does anybody know that taking a knee in the endzone gets us better field position than an 18-yard return from said endzone? Do we have anybody out there that actually wants to hit the kick returner when he's returning the ball, instead of falling near his feet and grabbing at his ankles; what about not falling at him for an ankle tackle when he's just now catching the ball and hasn't even made a move yet?

They made FOUR STRAIGHT mistakes on special teams resulting in a safety, field position lost, and a 15 yd penalty on a punt. The only thing worse than the penalty was the dumb ass ref announcing it was PASS INTERFERENCE.

Bobby finally yelled at the return men after he had seen enough. Where was the ST coach? Goofy could have done a better job coaching those units.

Those botched returns and return coverage was a big (but not only) reason we sucked today.

Agreed. Terry may want to help Jeff out on special teams as Jeff is failing miserably. More emphasis on return teams in practice is a glaring need.

I doubt anybody will be 'fired' unless TB is fired. Maybe some 'demotions' or rearranging. Once the head coach goes down that road its a real slippery slope. Unfortunately, this team needs a lot more than adjusting special teams.

I disagree about it being a slippery slope. However, like you said, it wont happen. "Good 'ol boys"

Aside from Zips MVP Zach Paul
Zach could have pinned the Huskies deep twice yesterday in critical situations and kicked the ball into the end zone resulting in minimal field position exchange. He was no MVP yesterday. I liked the change at punt returner.

Good Grief ... !!!! Or is it bad grief?

Give the man a chance to right the ship. The terrible situation is not the result of Terry Bowden misdeeds..

Bowden was brought in to rectify the the problem. Terry Bowden is a pretty fair coach with excellent credentials. He

needs the time and patience to turn this disaster around. Based on the continual improvement I would say that Akron

is well on its way to respectability. Thus far, coach Bowden has done an excellent job. Almost looks like turning a sow's

ear can be turned into a silk purse.

Stop whining and complaining. It only makes those of you doing so look like losers.

I attended a breakfast recently at the JAR where Coach Tressel was the guest speaker. In his well thought out and

knowledgeable opinion, the Zips are really close to busting loose. I will take his opinion over yours any day of the week.

Rome was not built in a day and neither will Zips football be. Be patient and trust in the excellent leadership. They believe;

when will you?

Bowden deserves next year and his seat is definitely not hot...may get a degree or two warmer with a loss to Miami! What else would Tress have said? The team is a mess and i hope they win 3 next year?

Originally, I believe this thread was supposed to be about Jeff, not Terry Bowden. Jeff was the OC at Florida State during the end of Bobby's tenue and it did not work out very well there, to say the least. I think some are wondering about him in the same way here at Akron as his special teams have been troubled. You could say, however, that it is the depth on this football team that is causing our special teams to play below standard. Freshman mistakes and athletes playing out of position do cause trouble. Keep an eye on Jeff, but give him a chance. If any Bowden is on the hot seat, however, it is him.

Terry Brought him in and Terry needs to let him go. It is part of being a manager or head coach that makes the difference between success and continued struggles.

In business you rarely if ever get to select your team with a clean slate. College football head coaches have the ability to pick their management team and build from the ground up. Bottom line is that TB knew the state of Akron Football when he picked up the phone and expressed interest in the job. Not to reopen old wounds, he initiated the contact and expressed interest. It is time to deliver on expectations.

Losing to Miami this weekend would immediately change the flavor of this season.. We tend to point to the near misses at Michigan and NIU as proof of progress. I was at the JMU game. Akron was outplayed, outsized and arguably outcoached. What I see right now is extreme variability in performance and that falls squarely on the HC. He has the responsibility to take action when action is warranted. A change on special teams is warranted and as long as the zips look like a peewee unit, Terry is to blame.

Is there and air of accountability on the current coaching staff or is this a purely collegial group taking advantage of a crappy situation?

I can't sign on with such an extreme position with this head coach. The previous one yes, but not this one. I'm actually getting a little enjoyment out of watching this team again after mothballing my Zips caps and gear for 2010 and 2011 due to embarrasment. I can understand the frustration for those 'bottom line' 'end of the day' types, but as long as things are struggling to go right and I see some light, I'm back and will be watching with great anticipation for a win over the Redhawks who I can't stand almost as much (maybe more this week) as Kommunist State University.

Welcome back. Enjoy the Sh*t burger that we call football.

Wow. I am glad you arent the guy making decisions about the football program. There isn't one coach on earth that would have Akron as a winner right now. This program was beyond a disaster. Terry took over a team with mid level D2 talent. Have a little patience. We have sucked long enough. It is time to be patient and to give Terry Bowden a chance.
