I know it’s a big “if” that it even happens, but the thought of the kids playing the biggest game of their career in front of a pitiful crowd makes me very sad.

It could never rival the weather on Nov. 24th, 2005, which is the last time we had a game to clinch the MAC East Title.  Weather data shows it was 36 for a high, and 14 for a low, with 2.5 inches of snow.  Just in case anyone needs to be reminded.

The way-too-early forecast shows 57 for a high and sun/cloud mix during the day.

It will be a shame no matter what the weather brings, because we'd probably have 5-7k in the seats, even if we produced a 70 degree day.

What was the attendance then? And never say never...I remember an ice bowl, vs Buffalo I believe, a few years ago.

The Buffalo attendance last Saturday appeared larger to me.

By the way, that game was ON Thanksgiving DAY !!

It's funny, because in my head it was -10 that day.  I remember the wind whipping drifts of snow everywhere.  And then I drove north for an hour for Thanksgiving dinner.

It depends on where you sit.  Keener's photo is the side most people don't go to sit on.  Just saying...horrible contextual photo Keener ;)  (now I'm not saying it was very good attendance...just better than the empty bleachers on the visitor side).

I'm not as good as Doc is on this, but here are a few of my shots from that Thanksgiving Day game, and I, like Rowdy Zip drove an hour north after the game too for Turkey Dinner!  I napped a lot under a warm blankie that day....

Yeah.  I was just being negative.  The home side was SRO.

Wow.  Thanks for sharing.  That's a real Zips Fan, if you've saved pictures of that day for this long.

Besides getting the trip to Detroit, I will always remember that day for being so incredibly nasty and cold on probably the biggest day in Akron football history.  What an absolute shame that only a few people were able to brave the harsh conditions to enjoy it.   If the weather was warm, maybe that game would have gotten decent attendance, and the big victory would have converted a good number of those attendees into lifelong Zips fans.

Remember the poster that thought we could average 15k fans this season?

I agree with Balsy though. I'm kind of over talking about attendance. Its going to continue to blow until the culture surrounding the game improves.

So I know your cracking on me but what is the attendance for the season so far?

I've already stated if we had a product good enough to watch, more people would show up. IDK who you're arguing with?

Rome wasn't built in a day. Attendance will always lag behind success. If we finish out this season strong you could probably expect to see some sort of small uptick in season tickets next year. People perceive our progrum as the dumpster fire of FBS from all the years of failure and little to no prior success. Its going to take years of winning football to overcome that perception.

This is the year Akron needs to clear the 15k average so I'm sure they will finish the season somewhere in the 15k-18k range. I'm also sure that Akron will be transferring $400k-$600k from the general fund to see those numbers are met.

So we're going to average 15k attendance this season.

Oh my goodness guys.  No D1 program is ever going to fail to meet the attendance requirement.  We are arguing over the fudge factor.  If you think we averaged 15K this season without the fudge factor you need your head examined.  On our best days the home side is half full.  The visitor side never comes close to reaching half full.  Each side seats 15K.  Do the math.

I have not seen a single person dispute this.

From the few scans of the stands by ESPN2 during tonight's NIU @ Toledo game, it didn't appear there were even 10k fans at the Glass Bowl for the biggest game of the year.  Not sure how they will spin it in the stats.  Of course it was raining hard too...
