Right now, I think any of those match ups would bring back memories of the Akron-VCU NCAA tournament game.

Hope Pohl's personal bye week springs some life back into the Zips offense this weekend.

Let’s play a little “guess the team based on a (theoretically) unbiased measurement and their current record”.

Sagarin Sagarin

Team Ranking Score Record

A 82 65.75 4-3

B 107 61.27 4-2

C 60 71.08 4-3

D 90 63.47 3-5

E 97 62.40 4-3

F 59 71.23 4-3

G 102 62.14 3-3

By the way, before looking these numbers up Teams C and F were the ones I thought were clearly the best just based on portions of a few games I’ve watched this year. I am not one to solely rely on a computer ranking, but I do appreciate the fact that reputation has no impact on these types of assessments. Going strictly by the numbers, the largest predicted spread at on a neutral site would be Team F over Team B by 10 points. If you take out Teams C and F, the rest of the bunch are within 4 ½ points of each other. I don’t see a potential blowout reminiscent of the UA-VCU NCAA tourney game in very many (if any) of these matchups.

I wouldn't want to play Louisiana in a bowl this year simply because the Zips have/had them scheduled last year and next year. I'd prefer the Zips go to Nassau over the projected sites. What has to be done to get into position for that? After the Bahamas, I think I'd most want to see a Mountain West opponent so I'd be OK with the Potato Bowl.

Truthfully, though, the most beneficial bowl for the Zips to go to may be the GoDaddy in Mobile, not playing until January 4th would allow for a lot more practice time not only for the game but also for next season.

The MAC has five bowl tie-ins. I really wish they could be opposite five different conferences. I have no problem with a MAC vs. Sun Belt bowl game but I don't want three of them.

VCU was favored by only 7.5 against the Zips. Just sayin'....

I get your point, but I think most of, regardless of the spread, were concerned about the matchup with VCU’s “Havoc” against our improvised backcourt. Teams C and F, both with talented dual-threat triggermen, could pose matchup concerns, a la Marshall. The rest of the teams don’t concern me in terms of matchups. The Zip defense, while a bit disappointing last week, is still capable of keeping us in most of these potential games IMHO.

I agree our defense is bowl-worthy. But 7 games into the 2014 season, I have yet to see any semblance of a bowl-worthy offense. Against the teams you listed, I can't see us moving the ball at all...at least under the present offensive status quo.

I'll continue to hope that Pohl's bye week brings him back motivated and refreshed, and that Chisholm and Hundley are utilized in the home stretch. If that happens, no doubt a VCU-esque beatdown (the football equivalent - Marshall 2014) won't happen.

A telling game for the Zippers this week. Losing to lower-middle MAC teams like OU and Ball State might still leave open the possibility of being bowl-eligible, but it would pretty much eliminate any claims to being bowl-worthy.

Some came to that conclusion after watching the Spring game. . .

Sometimes the people raising red flags early are proven wrong. Sometimes they are proven right.

There have been a few bright spots on the offensive side this season to keep hope alive and there is still time left to get it together, but that window of opportunity is closing.

Don't worry about any bowl game. Even if this coaching staff were capable of winning 3 out of the last 4,I question whether this team would be attractive to any bowl committee.

The bowl in Alabama would take us. Either of them. The real question is whether or not we can get to six wins.

I agree 7 games is the magical number, but we also need to be Top 5 of the conference. Period. Top 5 of the conference guarantees a bowl game.

Overall record wise we're sixth.

Toledo, NIU, BGSU, WMU, CMU, Akron.

Our closing schedule is favorable. We need 3/4. We need to get our OL straightened out, and get Pohl back into the game.

This is a completely different team if Pohl plays. I know it's crazy to consider after this weekend and I'm not personally predicting this will happen, but if the Zips can pull off a win over BG on the 4th the MAC Championship game is still a possibility.

I agree. Despite Ohio, and Ball St games being upsetting...we're still second in the MAC East. The Zips are still in control of their own destiny. A win over BG would tie the Zips with BG at 5-4, 3-2 (with us controlling the tie breaker). BG has a more difficult schedule after they play us: Playing Ball State, Can't and West Powerhouse Toledo. We play Buffalo, UMass and Can't.

We have all this talk about Bowden keeping Pohl out and such, but I'd rather have him rested, healed and ready to go for BGSU than rushing him in against other lesser "hungry" opponents.

The Zips can beat BGSU, and all this freaking out will end. Go Zips!
