HA-FN-RAY!!!! I've asked for this for years. Finally, someone is making it happen. Someone has finally taken marketing serious. I am excited to see what the future holds in this department.

Akron native and Cavaliers player LeBron James will be part of the campaign, with his commercial set to be filmed this month. The NBA star has agreed to participate in a commercial a year for the next five years for the school. He’s not being paid for the work.

I hope I am right about this but I believe as the cloud is lifted from our football team and our basketball team continues success, and soccer - it will accelerate the transformation to Ohio Tech. It is a great time to re-invent yourself as The Ohio Tech Zips. To me the new Z logo, the name change is all happening to coincide with anticipated attention. Perfect timing in my opinion.

Now if the ABJ would leave us alone. Of course they couldn't just print that we have a new marketing campaign to attract new students and promote positives…..they had to include the financial issues (almost defeats the campaign).

a-zip...I really have to ask what "it is a great time to re-invent ourselves as The Ohio Tech Zips" means.

At first, I thought it was the start of something sarcastic.

What I mean is that there has been a lot of negativity around the "The University of Akron" in the last years. The football team (our marquis sport) has been terrible. The University of Akron's academic rep has taken some hits around graduation rates,, financial issues, olive jars, restructuring some of the curriculum, decreasing enrollment, lowest attendance in the NCAA, etc. I think it is important academically and athletically to appeal to those outside of the Akron footprint.

IF (and this is a big IF) we start to show improvement in some of these areas and there is some positive mojo created - lets pin it to The Ohio Tech Zips. Put the 1-10 seasons and all the other negativity on the University of Akron.

There are several reasons to rebrand listed here, I think we fit most of them.

Not trying to pick on you but this was unintentionally funny and accurate. Football is supposed to be the marquee sport but I agree with you it has become the Marquis (as in de Sade) sport. All of us who follow it year after year have to have some masochistic tendencies. :-)

So, now that you have highlighted my spelling error……do you have anything productive to say or should we dig through all the grammatical/spelling errors on this board……I am sure I gots lots o' dem.

If you have tendencies toward Marquis de Sade, I would suggest counseling….or you and Keener :wave: get a council together to try and figure out what your point is!

Basketball has been fantastic. Soccer has been dominant. Track and Field has been excellent. Women's basketball has become a really good program.

Most of the negativity has surrounded Scarborough and his tone-deaf leadership, and only football has been a negative on the athletics side. That's enough to support a name change...???
