With no Zip game, I split my time between watching the Chips and UMass. You really can't scout from a TV feed, but the Chips were not all the impressive. If we bring our A game, we can win this game. When Toledo woke up, they took the lusture off UMass. The Thorn call throw the ball around, but he seemed prone to make some bad decisions. We could come out of the remaining five smelling like a rose, or just smelling.

MAC offensive and defensive numbers

Rushing

#1 Defense – Akron

#13 Offense – CMU

You would think the Zips can completely shut down CMU’s running game? It’s interesting that CMU leads the MAC in Time of Possession, despite being last in the league in rushing?

Defensive Sacks

#2 Akron

#13 CMU

Will Woodson have all day to throw, especially considering we return 2 starting OL’s and Williams this week?

Passing Offense

Akron #12

Passing Defense

CMU #1

If passing against BG was tough...passing against these guys might be even tougher.

4th Down Conversions

CMU #1

Akron #12

BG’s 4th down conversions 2 weeks ago were backbreakers. It would be nice to move up for the #12 spot after this week. We’ll need to convert a couple to beat CMU.

Red Zone Offense

#1 – CMU

#11 – Akron

I don’t like that one bit.

CMU’s Cooper Rush is the #2 rated QB in the MAC behind Matt Johnson. But he’s a distant 2nd. Hopefully facing the #1 QB so recently makes facing the #2 this week a little easier. We can only hope...at least CMU doesn't have a "Lewis" at WR.

I think what scares me the most is CMU's #3 ranked pass offense. While I like the Zips run D, the pass defense has not always looked too great even though it is ranked in the middle of the conference pack.

Could it be that CMU has the #1 pass defense because they are also #1 in time of possession? I'm not saying they aren't good but it could also be just be a matter of fewer plays being run by the opposition that puts them in the top spot statistically. I think Akron needs to show some type of ball control offense on Saturday, at least enough to keep the TOP numbers close.

Really glad to see the return of our 2 starting offensive linemen and Neiman Williams. As these three have trickled out of the offense, we have struggled. Both Woodson and Hundley should benefit from their return and we will have the best look at a more balanced offensive threat than we have had since ULL. If you think about it, the bye week was Woodson's first opportunity to practice with the first team without the pressure of preparing for a game that week. I am sure that was a weolcoime break for everyone.

You cannot get too hung up on stats, either, as EMU is the #2 pass defense and we had no trouble, whatsoever, putting up points.

I think this game is winnable and could end up as a tough, hard fought game by both teams. I think this might actually be more winnable than Buffalo, but have major concerns about both teams. There is a lot of parity in the MAC and almost any team can win any game in the conference.

Go Zips!
