I underlined that because, let's be real here, Universities that participate in D-I athletics...or really NCAA athletics that have a religious affiliation, are basically it in name only.  Lots of kids get scholarships to John Carroll and Notre Dame College here in NEO that have 0 affiliation to the religion/sect of those universities before, during, or after their time there.  They go for the sports scholarship.  Period.

I get your point, but your example is off (at least for JCU) as D3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships.

D3 schools don't officially give athletic scholarships, but they might as well. I was lightly recruited to play D3 football and every school I talked to said that they can't offer me a football scholarship, but if I committed they could guarantee me a different scholarship that was technically was for all eligible students, but an abnormally high rate of recipients played sports for the school. It always seemed shady to me, but I guess it followed all of the NCAA's rules.

Gilbert is headed to Bethune-Cookman he was wearing their  shirt the other day and Hunter Corne talked to him to see what was up. He has put back on some weight since the season ended. Hunter Corne  also receive a 2nd home visit Wed from Coach Eekken to cross the T's answer dot the I's.  Hunter has had late push from FAU and FIU but told them he was not interested. He has been committed since July and told them he will not go back on his word. The High school signing is at 4pm that day but he will fax his LOI in early that morning. He will be a Zip no doubt.

I think 2 obvious exceptions are BYU and Liberty.

We offered SVSM DE, Eric Bentley 6'3" 255 lbs

He is listed as a hard commit to YSU

Wish we had offered Bentley earlier.  Hope it's not too late.  I think he's a good player, almost a carbon copy of Hoban's Jabari Taylor.  Maybe we offered Bent after Taylor opted for Cincy.

I thought the same thing. We could have been pursuing transfers, too. It would be nice if we could score him. We really need to build depth on defense. I am still hoping we have a few good transfer scores before August. I would like to see us add one or two guys with experience on D before fall camp to give some of the recruits time to develop.

FYI I cannot find anything new on Moris Lugo. Still appears it is between us and FIU (seems like we compete with them a lot).

Which is understandable since it's with all the Florida kids. But it's funny if you think of it from their side - like why the f are we competing with Akron for all these kids in our backyard?

247 Sports has him as a hard commit for us: http://247sports.com/Player/Moris-Lugo-89738

Yeah, back in November a scout writer tweeted that Lugo has reopened his commitment and Akron and FIU are the front runners. That's still what Scout shows today. I don't think 247 ever changed the status. Who knows.

That's ridiculous. They must not know that we've recruited so much local talent. Local talent naturally makes the class that much better.

Well not every recruit is on that list and the class isn't final, but whatever. We've won a bowl game and had the most ever D-1 wins ever with classes ranked last in the MAC year after year.

But I am sure everyone else's class is complete and listed. Right?

I know we won a bowl game with a lot of transfers on the roster.

If you haven't noticed, we still haven't won the MAC. Toledo is at or near the top yearly. N. Illinois is near the top most years and there are others. We were in a bowl game once and right back to under 500 the next year.

Our facilities are second to none in the MAC. There is no excuse not to get top 2-3 classes in the MAC every year.

I am on another board with a very well known recruiting analysis and I asked him about Akron.

He said "Akron is the best job in the MAC" He mentioned facilities, stadium, recruiting area, etc. Yet here we are.

It doesn't matter if we get local recruits if the top level local recruits are going elsewhere.

I know that rankings aren't the end all be all, but if you haven't noticed, the teams that have the highest average rating are usually the highest rated teams too. Are there misses each way?, Yes, But by far you can take it to the bank That a class of mostly 3* will end up better than a class with mostly 2*. There are always outliers but not a lot.

Barto has decommitted

Perhaps I'm out of it, but who decommits immediately after a visit that he describes as going well? Could he have been told we are loaded at LB? Did we want to free up a scholly? Good luck wherever you go Will, but we will get this turned around and will be something special soon.

I don't think they would pull an offer, but you seen his picture with coach Bowden, he is small for a LB & he didn't get the warm & fuzzy feeling & said he didn't feel comfortable spending the next 4-5 years here, that is a smart decision if he feels that way cause he probably would of ended up getting home sick & quitting anyway
