Well, well, some good news. It seems that the Zips are not so poisonous to some quality teams. Details and names to follow. For those of us that haven't followed the entire ridiculousness of this thread, have we decided if the Zips are poisonous or not and who these potential "quality teams" are? johnnyzip84
I believe the NCAA will often reduce their punishment of a school that self-reports an infraction. Therefore, I’m going to self-report my complete and total amusement with this thread to the UA hoops coaching staff in hopes of receiving the same.
morris buttermaker
Grand Canyon has big-name opponents like Duke, Louisville, Illinois and San Diego State on the men’s basketball schedule next season. The Antelopes also will play Arizona, one of the colleges initially against their move to Division I. “Our goal is to be in the top 25 in every program we have,” ---and we want to win the MAC Edited May 3, 2016 by morris buttermaker

GoZips
As of now (May 18th) there is NO contract with Louisville. May I point out that coaches some times change their minds. Should that be held against us or me? Note that Louisville has issues that may be causing them difficulty scheduling. Apparently our cold butts are more inviting than the chill of an empty arena. Who knows?
ZachTheZip
Sometimes you have to call back even after getting turned down. Nobody gets everyone they want on their schedule, not even the powerhouse programs. They might tell you no, because they're negotiating with someone else. But if the spot is still open a few weeks later, they might be more willing to schedule you.

With games secured against Creighton, Louisville, and UTEP combined with whatever mid-majors we face in that Savannah tournament, the schedule isn't shaping up to be half bad. I'm going to hold out congratulating them until I see the full schedule, but I'll be the 1st to give them their due if it's well deserved.

I think it could amount to something better than normal. Certainly better than it looked just a short time ago. But at this point, we're seeing a big-time program, another somewhat recognizable program to some people, and maybe what's looking to me like a pretty crappy tournament. So right now, I'm still on "wait and see" mode until I see more, as far as comparing it to other seasons.
Let'sGoZips94
Now THIS is what I'm talking about. Well done Dambrot and staff for being persistent and getting The Ville on the schedule! With UTEP/Creighton/Louisville on the schedule, you have to beat one or two of them to make it truly count, but getting them on the schedule is a start! Go Zips! Z.I... P.S. GoZips is exactly right that Louisville has some issues that might have factored into accepting us onto their "prestigious" schedule. Nothing should be held against him for his earlier post. I believe it was an accurate one at the time.

Until the negotiations are finished and a contract is signed, nothing is official. We won't know when we're playing them, if we're getting a paycheck, if it's part of some larger scheduling arrangement, or anything else until then. Makes too much sense for both sides as I've posted about a dozen times over the last 2-3 years. Maybe the powers to be can take it a step further and try to get a game in Cleveland (read earlier on why I think it could make sense for both programs). Even if it's a one-stop trip to Louisville, the pros still outweigh the cons for the Zips.
LZIp
Even with the Louisville add, the schedule looks pretty much the same to me as last year strength wise. Remember we had Nova, Iona, Arkansas, and Green Bay. I did think last year's was a step up, though not really where is needed to be. Similar thoughts thus far for this schedule. ZachTheZip
I just want two good home opponents. And they don't even have to be "good" good. Just a team from the lower A-10 or even upper half of the Horizon.

That’s why most don’t care about a list of teams that turned us down in prior years. Especially when they include teams that have said “Yes” in the recent past. A lot of times it comes down to having the right dates open. I could have let this go until you doubled down by suggesting that Louisville might be having difficulty scheduling because of certain issues. GoZips
I was given the opportunity to review this coming season OOC schedule today. Regrettably Louisville is NOT on the Zips schedule. Akron will play at Gonzaga on that date (December 10th). Only one of the all too familiar low major opponents graces the Zips home schedule. A division 3 opponent, two home games against mid-majors as part of the Savannah tournament; and one decent quality mid-major bought game. I think you will like the schedule. The Zips should put an experienced and deep team on the floor and this schedule should work toward preparing Akron for conference play. Insert usual disclaimer here.
