Hilltopper Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) To all loyal Zips basketball fans, come join the Varsity A club and celebrate the accomplishments of our coach Keith Dambrot on August 9th. This fundraiser will help the program remain competitive and fill in the gaps from the recent budget cuts at UA. Hilltopper Posted July 20, 2016 Author Report Posted July 20, 2016 We are just a little over 2 weeks out from this event. It would be kinda cool if we could have a table full of members of Zips Nation to show their support for KD and the program. It will be an opportunity to meet and catch up with some of the former players who are going to attend. So far we have commitments from Dru Joyce, Romeo Travis, Jamal Ball, Jeremiah Wood, Derrick Tarver and Chauncey Gilliam. Invites have been made to Bob Huggins, Ben Braun and several former assistant coaches. This is going to be a first class event. If we want to be able to compete with the other big programs and really elevate our program to the level of a Gonzaga or Creighton, it takes money. Those programs have budgets in excess of $5 million per year. Akrons budget has been stuck at $2 million for several years now and KD does a great job with those limited resources. This dinner is a way to show how much we appreciate that and help the program at the same time. Even if you can't make the event a donation would help. How about a roll call to see who is coming? I'm in! Quote
Zip Watcher Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 With Shades on. Hope some of my favorite fans and players are there! Go Zips! Quote
Glib Shanley Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 No one deserves this recognition as much as Coach Dambrot. But, there is only so much $$ in the Shanley discretionary fund, so I'll have to forego the $500 meal for the $175 round of golf. 2 Quote
Hilltopper Posted August 1, 2016 Author Report Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) Sold Out! Thanks to all of you who are coming for your support of Zips Basketball. http://gozips.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/releases/20160801nmze1k Edited August 1, 2016 by Hilltopper 4 Quote
skip-zip Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 I hope everyone understands how important this is. The Private Money, in bunches, is so vital to get us to another level. We're fighting against some big programs with big buckets of money. We have to equalize the playing field vs. them. Quote
Sportsjunkie330 Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Will next years event still be called a "recognition" or will it just be called a "fundraiser?" Quote

Great Question. Maybe it will be a MAC title celebration, or better yet, a Sweet 16 celebration. Uh oh. I did it now. This is normally the time of the year where the overly optimistic prognosticators on this board come out with their predictions. Quote
zippy_ua_00 Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 Ill be there only because i work at rhe club. Unfortunately im not sure ill be able to sneak in from my bartending duties on the lake to listen. However my fiance aunt and uncle are pretty big contributors and will be in attendance Quote

Blue & Gold Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 http://www.gozips.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/releases/20160810khq9v5 Man, I wish I could have been there. Seth Greenberg, Jim Tressel & Bob Huggins were all there talking about KD?! Awesome. Quote
2Ball Posted August 18, 2016 Report Posted August 18, 2016 Anyone able to report how many people attended? I have been told the place can hold well over 100 people. Just curious what the athletic department considers a sellout. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted August 18, 2016 Report Posted August 18, 2016 I hope this thread dies soon. Every time I glance at the title it looks like "Keith Dambrot Resignation," and I get a minor heart attack. Quote
LosAngelesZipFan Posted August 18, 2016 Report Posted August 18, 2016 v cool that Dennison and Huggins were there Quote
zippy_ua_00 Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 (edited) Tressell huggins dennison and seth greenburg all in attendance in addition to some former players like dru joyce nate L, steve M to name a few,. Blue & Gold Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Didn't know Dennison was there. Glad he was invited - I'm certain that meant a lot to him (he's an extremely humble guy). 1 Quote
ZippyRulz Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 Nice event. I'm guessing LeBron didn't want to be a distraction from the focus on KD. Quote
ZZZips Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 If Dennison was there, I unfortunately missed him. Did anyone see him in attendance? LeBron was out of town but sent a video. For zippy_ua_00: Nate Linhart was also not in attendace. He had already returned to Europe to start training camp for this season. Nate also sent a video. Videos were also sent in by former assistant coaches Shaka Smart and Jeff Boals. 1 Quote
