To all loyal Zips basketball fans, come join the Varsity A club and celebrate the accomplishments of our coach Keith Dambrot on August 9th. This fundraiser will help the program remain competitive and fill in the gaps from the recent budget cuts at UA.

We are just a little over 2 weeks out from this event. It would be kinda cool if we could have a table full of members of Zips Nation to show their support for KD and the program. It will be an opportunity to meet and catch up with some of the former players who are going to attend. So far we have commitments from Dru Joyce, Romeo Travis, Jamal Ball, Jeremiah Wood, Derrick Tarver and Chauncey Gilliam. Invites have been made to Bob Huggins, Ben Braun and several former assistant coaches. This is going to be a first class event. If we want to be able to compete with the other big programs and really elevate our program to the level of a Gonzaga or Creighton, it takes money. Those programs have budgets in excess of $5 million per year. Akrons budget has been stuck at $2 million for several years now and KD does a great job with those limited resources. This dinner is a way to show how much we appreciate that and help the program at the same time. Even if you can't make the event a donation would help.

How about a roll call to see who is coming? I'm in!

I hope everyone understands how important this is.  The Private Money, in bunches, is so vital to get us to another level.  We're fighting against some big programs with big buckets of money.  We have to equalize the playing field vs. them.

Will next years event still be called a "recognition" or will it just be called a "fundraiser?"

Great Question.  Maybe it will be a MAC title celebration, or better yet, a Sweet 16 celebration.

Uh oh.  I did it now.  This is normally the time of the year where the overly optimistic prognosticators on this board come out with their predictions.

Regardless of the rosy predictions, I will expect some struggles early in the season.

Anyone able to report how many people attended?   I have been told the place can hold well over 100 people.  Just curious what  the athletic department considers a sellout.

Tressell huggins dennison and seth greenburg all in attendance in  addition to some former players like dru joyce nate L, steve M to name a few,. It was a cool event. It was a packed house. It can hold about 250 people.

If Dennison was there, I unfortunately missed him.  Did anyone see him in attendance?  LeBron was out of town but sent a video.  For  zippy_ua_00:  Nate Linhart was also not in attendace.  He had already returned to Europe to start training camp for this season. Nate also sent a video.  Videos were also sent in by former assistant coaches Shaka Smart and Jeff Boals.
