Been a "few" years (i.e. 7) since my last "visit" to your place.

FWIW here's a 10 second clip of our 7' 1" 300 lb gazelle beating the entire Washington team down the court last night for the jam (and the "and" 1)

http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=18233688

The Zips have a bit of a track record beating the tripe of the PAC-12, including USC and Oregon State in recent years.

After watching the Washington/Gonzaga game...we'd beat the Huskies too. Man are they bad.

It is being broadcasted on a regional sports channel in the PNW. It doesn't sound like we will be able to watch in NEO.

I was looking at the Gonzaga game notes posted for the game and it gives a link for the video stream of TheW.tv which "is the home for West Coast Conference action on both linear television and in the digital space." You can also reach it from the West Coast Conference website wccsports.com. I called the conference office and the woman I spoke with said we should be able to watch the game for free on that site. As of the moment I am writing this, you can click on "Scores and Schedules" along the top of the page, find our game on the list and click on it. I does bring up the game screen, but no video yet since the game has not started. It also appears it will be on Livestream which I can cast through my Google Chrome. I hope I have not been misinformed, but it certainly is worth a try come game time.

Thanks for doing that work for us.  I hope you got accurate information.

Edit:  Is it just a coincidence that right after you went to all of this work to find out the video feed that I noticed that the U of A website listed the same thing?

Funny.

Maybe they were reading the Gonzaga game notes at the same time I was. :)  I hope it works.

Really good game preview by ESPN. Mentions the Zips strengths, injury concerns, and even has a quote from coach. You can tell that the author put in the work for this article. We should play top 10 teams more often, this is the best coverage the Zips have received from anyone yet this year.

As they are analyzing the Washington/Gonzaga game, I'm astounded that Washington lost by 27, but grabbed 29 Offensive rebounds.  That really seems unbelievable.

This article talked alot about rebounding.  Stating how we outrebounded Coppin State by a huge margin, but how Gonzaga didn't rebound well against Washington.  That's not really a good comparison.  But, it seems to imply that Akron might be a good rebounding team, and Gonzaga a poor one.  I don't think that's the way it will go in this game.  But if we really do beat Gonzaga on the boards, we would really turn a corner since I see that as a weak area for us with the personnel we have this year.

Mark Few mentioned that the last two games (Arizona and Washington) rebounding was problematic.  Washington DID grab 29 offensive boards, but they shot 30 percent from the field and missed something like 60 shots.

I'm hopeful that it will be a great college basketball game in a great atmosphere.

Have your guys found the Drive In just around the corner from Gonzaga's campus?  It's a pretty popular local chain.

You mean it's better coverage than the Akron Beacon Journal's "Staff Reporter"?

This got me thinking.  Akron and Gonzaga are both "non-power" D-1 programs that have won a lot of games consistently for many, many years.  But Gonzaga has roughly only 1/4 of Akron's enrollment.  Yet, this video doesn't seem to paint a picture of "college students today don't have as much free time as they did in 19__", or "students can't make it to games today because they all have to work 3 jobs", etc.

Building Block?  This is the kind of Win that could make the difference between IN or OUT.  Or, if we're already in, it's the kind of win that could make a difference of a couple of spots in seeding.

I like how the article points out that scheduling these games are "a necessity to build a program that has respect nationwide".  That's right on the money.  That should always be our ultimate goal.

This got me thinking Akron hasn't made something like 16 straight tournaments, hasn't made an Elite 8, and has never had a top 10 rating. Quit trying to compare apples to oranges. If you want what Gonzaga has, we need to become nationally relevant. At said point not only will students make it more of a priority to show up, but so will Joe Akron.

I just reviewed our stats and currently we are a good shooting team hitting approximately 50% from the field and 40% from the 3 point line.  Last game I was impressed with how many interior baskets we scored, especially from Jimond Ivey.  But the question remains if we can shoot this well against a top ranked team in a hostile environment?  In the first half against Creighton Big Dog turned the ball over numerous times and we shot 25% from the 3 point line.  We need to play better than that to stay in this game.  I believe that Big Dog can hold is own and score if they do not double team him down low even if he plays against 7 footers.  He is very athletic and quick for a big man and can finish around the basket.  Also, we need to play well when he goes out as there is nobody else on the team with his skill set.  It will be interesting to see if KD goes to Poke or Hughs to rest Big Dog.  We are a well discipline defensive team but a top 10 team will score against the Zips.  If we can hit our 3 point shots, get some interior scoring and limit the fast break points we could stay in the game.  I like to see this team play well against good competition.  This is great experience for out team to play against 2 top 20 teams in one week.  However, to win this game we have to play mistake free basketball and hope the Zags have an off night.  Go Zips!

Cue the "Gonzaga doesn't have a D1 football albatross tied around its neck" arguments.

Interestingly enough, the lack of "football" often comes up when GU plays high profile Power 5 schools.  For instance, earlier this year that was one of the reasons given by both the Florida and Iowa State faithful for why they'd dispatch the Zags down in Orlando.   I had to point out that while it's true that Gonzaga no longer has football (we're undefeated since 1941) the Zags have exactly the same number of guys in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as the Gators, and actually have more than the Cyclones ... who, by the way have zip/zilch/nada

The keys to. Zips win are:

Big Dog stays out of foul trouble. We need him to play 30 minutes.

Big Dog can't play more than 30 minutes against this level of competition. If he does he'll relive the Ohio State game, where he was completely gassed and missed his last 76 free throws.

We we need the Kwan that hits 6-9 on threes, and not the Kwan that hits 1-11 threes. He needs to have a big night.

Can Big Mike, Ace and O-Poke give our bigs a rest by playing some quality minutes?

Our guards will be fine. They're deep and battle-tested. Antino always lays tough in big games.

Our bigs need to show up tonight.
