2017 Bowl Watch

I have seen a few places that say the MAC Champion would usually go to Mobile. So my guess is that if Akron pulls off a near miracle and wins in Detroit that they will be headed to the Dollar General Bowl. That bowl often times doesn't take the champ in cases where the matchup would be a rematch or if the same team had been there in the past couple years but I don't think Akron as MAC Champ would have to worry about those scenarios.

If the Zips lose in Detroit my personal hope is that they end up in a bowl that is not one of the MAC primary bowls. I remember at one point seeing a bowl projection that had a MAC team going to the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl. In terms of getting to a new recruiting area I think that would an interesting destination, although I don't know if that bowl will even be in play because I haven't followed which conferences will be able to fill their tie-ins.

Yep Florida is ideal. Detroit would be second on my list.

In Florida, we get 500 fans.

In Detroit, we get 5,000 fans.

Plus, Detroit gives us a great chance to play a Big 10 team, which presents an opportunity for a long-sought-after win against a conference in our region that impacts our recruiting.

I like the matchup (Boston College).  Not sure I want a cold destination, and watching a football game in a baseball park.

Besides NIU in the Orange Bowl, it'd arguably be the best bowl a MAC team has gotten into. The ACC calls it one of their "Tier 1" bowls. It's a fun place and beats the heck out of Alabama

A really fun place.   I'd just prefer the cities that I like to walk around to not be 30 degrees when I go there :D

I think the draw would be outstanding for Akron.  I don't see it happening.  Many of these prognosticators certainly just plug a school like Akron into any slot that they see available when they do these charts.  And looking at their previous selections, and attendance, I see this bowl doing everything possible to get someone with a higher profile than Akron.

I have trouble seeing that we will be anywhere that isn't a MAC contract bowl as there should be more than enough teams eligible.

Yep.  The only chance I see in getting into a bowl that is "outside" of that circle is to have a year where a low number of teams are eligible, and the MAC has an overabundance of qualified teams.  And that's not going to be the case this year.

Again, a prognosticator with no knowledge of the situation, and just plugging Akron into an available slot on his sheet.

So are there 4 guaranteed MAC bowls and then a few others which are like semi-guaranteed?  Toledo and NIU are definitely locks.  Would think we would get preference over Ohio and Buffalo.  I just think we will go to Idaho again.  Toledo probably sent to Quick Lanes.  I think those prognosticators don't realize Toledo is so close to Detroit and can bring a lot of fans.

There are going to be enough in total, but you're going to have conferences like the B1G unable to fill all their spots with a few playing in NY6  bowls, and conferences like the MAC with more teams than bowl contracts. Those bowls have to fill their spots from somewhere

For the quick Lanes Bowl in Motown the direct tie-in is B1G and ACC, with the MAC having the secondary affiliation.  What are the chancez that the primary conferences can fill the slots?  Haven't looked at the standings, but might a Minnesota be a possibility?  What about the ACC?  They able to fill all their slots?  Point I'm making is, this would be the LEAST appealing bowl game for their teams, but perhaps MOST appealing to the MAC.

Edit!  I see now that MinnieBoata has to pull off the Upset of the B1G season and beat Wisconsin to get to 6 wins.  One of the flies in the bowl ointment is that the crummy Conference USA could have ten teams be bowl eligible.  Crazy!

I guess on the flip side...we're more likely to beat whoever we play in Florida, which is also a hotbed for Bowden Recruiting...

I think I'd take a signature win over a larger program in our region as having a greater impact on our program than hoping that a Florida kid might see us make an appearance somewhere in their state.

Plus, our fans need something big that we can participate in.  In 2005, we took a caravan of busses to Michigan.  And thousands of others went on their own.  It's been too long.  We need something like that, if we have the chance.

I would too. I'm not sure we're ready to beat a bowl eligible P5 team, though.
