And I think a week's prep work with KN

It was just strange.

One thing you can always expect from a new QB (especially one like Kato who scrambles) is that he is going to try to make some big plays when things aren't going well.  Yet, he never tried to do that against Miami.

AKRON, Ohio -- For Kato Nelson, his performance in leading the Akron Zips to first place in the Mid-American Conference East Division in just his second start Tuesday was as obvious on the field as it was watching from the stands.

WTF Elton?

I really hope there's a big turnout for the Can't game. The community and fan base needs to reward a stellar performance and hopefully a trip to Detroit with a good crowd for the last game of the year.

I will "hope" along with you.

I think some people need to jump on this news that "Akron is one win from a MAC East title", and spread it everywhere on campus and in Akron.  We should have more believers after getting over the big hurdle last night.

With an early forecast of 50 degrees, there's a chance to get more people than last night too.

But the "November Tuesday night" affect is the hardest part to overcome.  And with Kent's season lost, we can't expect much from their "supporters".  Did you see how many people showed up for the CMU at Kent game last night?  You may have been able to count them on both hands.

I'd say that if we can get a few thousand more than we had last night, that might be it.    I think a "big turnout" might be hoping for a miracle.

The extra element of Kato's legs seemed to loosen things up for our O-line.  That's a huge advantage, and part of the reason we sputtered offensively in the second half.  We completely abandoned the run.  I'd be curious to see the run/pass ratios between halves.

The other issue that was killing me was kickoff coverage.  How many times did we return the ball past the 25?  How many times did OU return a kick beyond the 40?  Gotta clean that up.

I was calling for us to do an onside kick one time.  Then we actually kicked it to the goal line and the guy ended up fumbling it.  Glad they didn't listen to me!

Yeah, this article is another..."if it weren't for a missed field goal" diatribes about how the other team was really better but...

One last thing...I enjoyed myself last night probably more than I ever have at a Zips game. Some of these people trashing attendance on social media are Zips fans I believe. Put your money where your mouth is and show up yourself or go pound salt.

I actually thought attendance was better than what I would have predicted for a Tuesday.  My section seemed to have a good number of people (not like a Saturday) but good considering it weekday/school night.

Our attendance issues obviously aren't something we should be content with, but I do agree.

^^Kato said that there are RPO's in the playbook that were called (at least last night). I don't recall any that I really noticed, but I do remember that the apparent absence of those last week was brought up as a complaint towards the OC.

Folks don't over think what is happening right now. ENJOY IT. Been over a decade since these guys have been on the verge of a trip to Detroit. And, just like in 2005,they HAVE TO BEAT KS'WHO to go! No blizzard this time.

A lot about last night's game you could parse out . The one thing I kept wondering while I was watching Nelson trying to stay warm was why Bowden stayed with Woodson for so long during the season? Especially, when the offense struggled to score. He and the coaches were seeing Nelson in practice every day. After we saw him for two full games,it appears pretty apparent that he has more overall physical talent than Woodson. More athletic, better arm extends plays with the run,is not afraid to run, seems more accurate and is not afraid to throw the ball away when the play is busted. With Nelson on the field it opened up the rest of the offense so they were able to run a little more effectively.

Anyway, now Tuesday 11-21-17 becomes the biggest game of the season!

I was actually surprised that it was such an active and vociferous crowd, for the number of people who were there.

In person or on TV? Because you could definitely hear the crowd on TV.

Don't be so sure about the "no blizzard".

The forecast right now (luckily) is calling for a 50 degree day on Tuesday, but it will be sandwiched between cold and snow this Sunday, and cold and snow by Thanksgiving.

Lets hope that timeline doesn't shift.   But for right now, it looks like Tuesday will be the best day of the week.

There was so much energy last night at the stadium. I lost my voice from yelling and cheering the whole game. In typical wife fashion, she said it was because I was yelling wrong

At times we looked like a bad pee wee team, and at times we looked like a P5 Champs!!!!!!!

Symptoms of youth and inexperience. This team is young due to injuries, but you can see the natural talent shine through on occasion. The coaching staff doesn't get enough credit for both their recruiting and development of talent. It's coming together; slowly and in spurts, but you can see the upward trend.

Hey, 2005 was a wild year too.  We had plenty of good and bad games.

I think I'll try not to finish characterizing this team until they do what the 2005 did.....They FINISHED THE JOB when it mattered, by demolishing a bad Kent team

I agree! But I must admit those penalties were making me scream!

We did some stupid things.

But when Penalty Yards are 167 to 19....something is wrong.

The officials could have ensured that we lost that game.  They seemed like they were trying.

Before this game was played, how many people here would have said that we had any better than a 1% chance of winning this game if you were told what the penalty yardage was going to be?
