We already knew about Travonte.

Blue & Gold
^^Nice pick by Rich Hall at the 3:30 mark. He's got a fantastic build for a freshman corner.

(I am legitimately asking I've kinda had Zips football on the back burner after the MAC East championship game). Ok my friend. Since I said it may be a tough year I'll try to explain why I think it might be. First, of our first four games we play more talented teams in Nebraska, Northwestern and Iowa State. We could be 1-3 at the end of four. Then we move into the regular season against MAC foes. Our OL will have 4 new faces. Keep in mind that our OL has never been in the upper echelon of the MAC so that's a question mark. Our QB is unproven but talented. Kato carries our hopes but he has yet to prove anything. Our RB's are also unproven altho' we hope Deltran can realize the promise he showed before injury and the rest show potential. Our WR's have only one proven one returning in Kwad and no incumbent TE. On D we have been pathetic on the DL altho' there is much hope here too. But keep in mind the only proven pass rushers we have are Boxen and Davis. Do you detect a theme here again? Our LB's will be good, maybe even great. The DB's have talent but have to show they can shut down opponent's passing game. We sure as hell didn't do that in our last two games against Toledo and FAU. When you look at our special teams you see that we have consistently been at the bottom of the MAC. A coaching change should upgrade that standing. Yet we have no reliable FG kicker. Our KO's are horrible, rarely reaching the end zone. Punting may be a plus. A respected football coach once told me that when you are a coach looking at the season you identify all the question marks you have. Then you realize, at best, only 50% of them will pan out. As you can see above we have lots of question marks. They all won't pan out. That may be what ultimately holds us back. We are getting better, no doubt, but we have big problem areas to solve. There is potential to solve each area but nothing that is proven in them. Just potential.

LZIp
I know I'm a little late on this, but there are 2 different rosters out there right now (go figure). This one and this one. Neither include Morris, but I've added him since we know he's on the team and eligible. There are some discrepancies (Devin Jordan is included on the second one but not the first one), but I updated the scholly chart the best I can. In addition to Sibley, it looks like the only other freshman who didn't make it is Ben Phillis. Assumed 1 specialist in each group got one, who they are isn't really important I don't think, but I did see on twitter that Cam Lyons did end up getting one, who also happens to be the son of the WVU AD. No exciting transfer we don't know about like years past. And I show 5 open scholarships..... CDMac
@LZIp - This is awesome, again. Thanks for keeping track of this. Two notes on formatting: If you Left Align the cells with the years that have the drop-downs, you can see the years rather than having them hidden by the dropdown arrows to sort the column data. Additionally, if you select cell A5 and then click Window > Freeze Panes, it will freeze the row above so the Name, Pos., Scholarship, etc. remain visible as you scroll through the rows. At the golf outing TB mentioned a 2018 Zips PA recruit got injured in a summer HS all star game, and decided to greyshirt to allow Morris to have a 2018 scholarship. I'm guessing it was Ben? Blue & Gold
ABJ: Talented senior cornerback Kyron Brown a team leader for Zips “You can take more chances with your front knowing they can cover better, they can cover longer, they can do different things,” Bowden said of having a strong defensive backfield. “So I think you can rely on them to allow you to be more effective up front by blitzing, taking some risk up there.” Edited August 9, 2018 by Blue & Gold
zipsoutsider
SCHOLARSHIP ALERT!!!!!!!!!!! Former walk-on, Cameron Lyons has been officially put on scholarship. He comes to us from Morgantown High School in West Virginia. Cam has been with us one year at the long snapper position, and we see a very bright future for this young man. #GOZIPS pic.twitter.com/BUmTnhE2Sk — Akron Zips Football Recruiting (@ZipsFB_RECRUIT) August 6, 2018
LZIp
Interesting little read. We seem to have been much more conservative during our better years (looking at the last 4 as a sample size). http://footballscoop.com/news/interactive-chart-shows-often-favorite-coach-goes-fourth/ Edited August 9, 2018 by LZIp
