They must have added a couple of good swimmers after finishing in 39th place (6 points in one event by Sarah Watson) at last springs NCAAs.

Wonder if Sarah is related to Jack "froggie" Watson who swam IM and the 1000 and 500 free back in the 70s.

(Delayed reporting of) Improvement - The Zip female tankers finished in 36th place in the 2021 NCAAs; 3 points for a 14th place finish in the 200 IM by Sarah Watson.

In the 2023 NCAA D1 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship, the Lady Tankers finished in 36th place with 5 points (only 500+ points out of 1st).

Senior Weronika Goreka led the Zips scoring raking up 4 points for a 13th place finish in the 200 Back.

Junior Maddy Gatrell added 1 point by finishing 16th in the 100 back.

The road to quick success for the Zips is obvious.

We have to load up on a bunch of trans swimmers who were fairly good competing as men but will blow the swim caps off the competition competing as women.

We must act quickly on this because it's only a matter of time before somebody with some common sense prohibits trans from female competition.

The 2023 edition of the MAC Champions Swimming and Diving team had their Alumni meet on Homecoming, and they begin competition this weekend with the Zips Classic Friday and Saturday.  Just remember these names and numbers please:

Emma Moynihan (Miami) - 4:42.47 (2019 500 free); Claudia Lins de Mello (Miami) - 1:45.47 (2019 200 free); Claire Leichty (Toledo) - 16:11.80 (2012 1,650 free)

I don't know much about the quality of this season's edition of our S & D team, but this is a shocker. No one in the MAC has been able to hang with our ladies in the past. I have no idea of how this happened. Can anyone else out there shed some light?

In looking at the final results from the meet, it appears we didn't swim some of our more seasoned veterans, and went with a more "newbie" lineup, plus we didn't have a very deep representation in every event, i.e. 3 Zips entered vs. 8 OU swimmers in the 200 free, etc.  So depth wasn't there.  No Dyer, no Goreka, no Sebotin.  Plus, the women swam against Ohio State the night before this meet in Columbus in a dual, so I would assume they went big vs. the Buckeyes to see how they match up, and hoped the reserves could score vs. Ohio.  Just a guess.  And on top of that, I'm not sure how much dual results in the MAC mean to Peresie, this was a chance to let his team swim in the pool where the MAC Championships will be held in March.

Thanks Z-Claws. I'm glad the sky is not falling. 😁 I would go with my best against OSU too. Competing against OU a day later is a good opportunity to build depth. I am very proud of how good our lady S & D team has been over the years. They are the best women's program on campus year in year out.

You are very perceptive, oh wise B & G.  I know U of A really had no choice when it occurred, but I am disappointed that the record board at the Natatorium reflects the results, and also the program for the Invitational does as well.  I just find the stance that all NCAA institutions took last year in celebrating Title IX hypocritical in light of what happened in the sport that year.  U of A does a very good job of supporting women's athletics, and I applaud them for that, it's just a sore spot, since our daughter swam against two of these women.

Wow Wow Wow!  Zips Women win their 10th title in Swim and Dive, and it wasn't even close!  We watched the finals on Friday and Saturday on the MAC live stream, which was well done.  I was a little concerned looking at the performance list from the NCAA going in that Miami might give the Zips some trouble, and they do have a lot of talent, but Akron's depth (not a good swim term!) was overwhelming, as points are scored for both the Championship and the Consolation finals.  By Thursday night it was obviously Akron's meet.

Some great performances by Abby Daniel, who was Swimmer of the Meet, and Rachel Sabotin who was a real workhorse.  Maddy Gatrall and Becca Reid were pure winners.  Veronica Gorecka had an outstanding meet.  One of the coolest thing was Astrid Halvorsen almost winning the 1,650 free from the third of four heats, not actually competing head-to-head with the eventual winner.  I think if they had gone head-to-head Astrid would have won.

The really nice story of the week was Grace Nuhfer, who is blind.  She set two Paralympic event records at the meet as a Zip!  And, the really really nice story is that Charles Guthrie and Jackie Walgren were both there to support the Zips on both nights.  I saw video this morning of Charles jumping in the pool afterwards, holding a life preserver!  This may have been the Zips most dominant Championship win of the 10.

Icing on the cake...Gorecka, Gatrall and Daniel qualify for the NCAAs!  Way to go Pool Zips!  These young women are very talented, and driven.  Good luck in Athens, but Georgia this time instead of Ohio!
