Looking forward to seeing him in the blue and gold. With all the seniors this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if he contributes as a freshman. Where did you get that information? If he is a DT, then Coach Arth has recruited 4 DL prospects, three who have excellent size, (280, 260, 280, and 230 lb). I have always been concerned with the DL at Akron. Usually, the recruits are not that big or not rated at all, and the play over the years has been suspect at best. We have gotten some good transfers or JUCO's for the DL that have played well. If these 4 guys turn out to be talented, then Coach has done a great job and the DL will be set for years. However, when I watch Proffitt's game film, I do not see a lot of very positive plays. Anyhow, I have trust in Arth, and this is one more recruit that will help Akron turn the corner in the future and become a MAC force. Both Hudl dot com and Maxpreps dot com also have him listed as a DL. I'll correct Post #1. Edited July 12, 2020 by Blue & Gold

Hudl has him at 6'2" and 180 lb. The 6' 160 must be from his sophomore season. So, he has grown, put on weight, and is a very good size. I am not sure if the running list should be updated to reflect. A 160 lb D1 player does not put fear into the hearts of the opposition. When I was watching his film I thought he looked bigger than the listed 6-0, 160. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll update the initial post. LZIp
Coaching staff seemed pretty pumped to get Gathings. We were the first to give him a D-1 offer last year, but he also picked up offers from Kent and BG in that time, along with a handful of FCS schools. Looking at his tape, MTB came to mind for some reason.

I am so impressed at how Arth is building the DL. we have some transfers in Cross and Mitchell, Logan Hawkins came from the Bowden era (I believe), we have youngsters in Allen, Sy, Wade, Wilson, and Julius Hawkins. I am hoping Meeks has a good senior season. But now, I see two future DL men that appear to be excellent. Let's welcome Reese and Jabbaar. They appear to be excellent additions. The future DL appears to be talented and deep and will help the Zips dominate. I hope that they can get 1-2 more DL commitments this year and continue to build for the present as well as the future. Keep it up Coach Arth. I do not know how may victories we will get in 2020 (if any), but you are definitely building up the talent base to a level that I have not seen years. Too bad that Bowden left the talent level so bare. Go Zips. I hope the future DL has enough depth and talent to be competitive in the MAC.

FWIW, B&G, i think its closer to 16 than 20. I'm not sure any players listed that aren't high schoolers will be on scholly outside of Mumpfield, Kelley-Powell, and Jankowski. Kelley-Powell may also count as this year as well. I suppose we will find out for sure come December!
