Class of '21 Verbal Commits

Recommended Posts

DE Bennett Adler (St. Ignatius) was named to the Cleveland dot com 1st Team Defensive Team.

A defensive end among St. Ignatius' three down linemen, Adler blended power and speed to earn a scholarship commitment with the University of Akron... 11 TFL's, 23.5 tackles with 5.5 sacks entering their final game.

Linky

(Btw, this is pretty elite company as the other two DL 1st-Teamers were Hoban's Darryl Petersen who is a Wisconsin commit, and Streetsboro's Mike Hall who is an Ohio State commit.)

Not a commit, but I don't want to start a new thread. Looks like we just offered this guy, and are his first FBS offer so I would think the chances of him ending up here are more likely than not. He has good size, looks fast off the ball, plays great competition, and is pancaking somebody every single play. For any O-line aficionados, am I missing something?

His tape looks really good from both sides of the ball.  My question is what is the level of competition that he is playing?  If he was playing good competition, how did schools not find this guy?  My thoughts are that the competition is pretty weak, thus leaving him without any other offers.  Many of his pancake blocks look like they are against much smaller players.

Colin plays for Mckeesport.  Mckeesport is Pennsylvania class AAAA, so yeah, those schools are getting pretty small.  Pennsylvania Class A is the largest, Class AAAAAA (6A) the smallest.  PA Class AAAA would, obviously, be the equivalent of our D-IV.

IMHO, Ohio's D-1 through D-3 are all tough.  but go smaller than that and there seems to be quite a drop off.  Those players are definitely the diamonds in the rough.  So you're probably right, @bigjim.

For whatever reason, I though McKeesport was a pretty respectable program in the WPIAL. They beat state champ powerhouse West Jefferson this season. May be wrong though.

You're probably right.  I had to google PA athletic divisions to learn what the A system signified.  I thought they were a bigger school that D-4, but Mckeesport definitely has a good reputation in athletics.

I'm excited for signings this week.  Since players will get a pass for this year, what happens to the total scholarship limit for schools.  Will programs like OSU that maintain the limit need to have seniors from this years class leave so they can sign in coming recruits?  This could be a real boost to our program allowing us to get up to the limit.

I am very curious on how the scholarship limit will work.  Per the scholarship chart, we have 65 scholly's, minus 1 for Wolfley at 64.  We have 24 recruits on the list of recruits.  Plus, we have several athletes who opted out that may be returning.  This puts us over 85 which is the limit.  I would appreciate an explanation or a link to how this works.  As Ham said, schools that were close to the 85 man limit will have a much more difficult time.  Go Zips

My understanding is schools are allowed to add the new scholarships they otherwise would have. So a program like us can add 25 easy because we would be under the limit considering where we are and what seniors would be leaving in a normal year. A program like Ohio may have been at 85 but only had 14 scholarship seniors, so they would have 14 to sign. Nobody knows how it will work after next year (will the total scholarship # increase, will schools have x number of years to get back down to 85, or something else).
