Let'sGoZips94
I think we have our QB of the future in ZG5. Looking at the stats, ZG5 outplayed Miami's QB, by far if you consider ZG5 didn't have a running game to open up the passing game. 265 yds rushing to less than 70. That's where this game was won/lost, which points to two problems. Defense and the running game. Arth recruited ZG5, and so far that is proving he has the ability to identify at least some talent and bring it in here. He also has shown the ability to snag talented portal transfers - Boating being the guy that comes to mind. I don't count the COVID year against Arth. To me, he's in the middle of his second year as the Akron HC. Should we have been more active during the COVID chaos of the transfer portal? Possibly. Would that have hurt the development of the young guys? Yes. There are certain things that point to "he just doesn't get it at this level," then there are other things that give me a glimmer of hope. So, to me, the main focus of improvement (mostly going into next year since you can't make trades at the college level) is how does Arth improve the two glaring weaknesses - rushing and defense? Luckily I ordered pizza and wings while I watched, so that was a positive. The defense is absolutely horrid. It reminds me of the Browns before they became somewhat relevant now. You just know they can't compete and assume a 3rd and 10 will likely be converted. And many times it certainly does. Ugh. Offensively I'm more confident in. Not perfect by any means, but there is potential and a few "stars". Mumpfield is the man!! Our defense on the other hand....no. I am hoping for another win this season, but goodness, I'm not confident in them at all to be able to pull off a win. It's very frustrating. Not sure where this goes. I ordered Romeo's pizza & had Handle's ice cream & then took a nap through the entirety of the 2nd half. So I also had a rather triumphant afternoon. Zips football fans are good at making lemonade. If Kato didn't go down along with the other QB Gibson would still be riding the Bench Thats like having a stacked hand in Spades and playing the wrong cards. Arth is still a clueless coach who needs to Go Arth is Bankrupting this program 3rd season, 2–20 (.091) No more next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I could do a shitty job for $400k and get praised for it Edited October 18, 2021 by dre22era

Certainly agree that unless the defense improves immensely this team will be spinning its wheels next year. At this point in the season the problems on defense do seem to have a strong correlation to questionable coaching. Usually if kids can be 'coached up' to some extent they will improve during the season. That hasn't happened and there is not likely to be improvement seen now given the schedule. I do think the offense would benefit from a D that didn't give up tons of yards and points. I am liking Gibson more and more. I think the run game can be at least adequate. But, the offense is almost always 'chasing points' at some point during games. Makes it hard to establish a run game or controlled passing offense. The D has no impact linemen or LB's who can stop drives consistently. They leave the secondary exposed. Now the problem is beside trying to convince some more talented D kids to come to Akron, they have to try to convince a more competent defensive coaching staff to come to Akron. If you are a competent young coordinator or position coach why would you want to step into this situation? I have know idea.
