I cannot remember a point guard who can't even hit 50% from the free throw line. He average 8.8 points at Northern and now 3.5 points for Akron. He rarely penetrates and really adds nothing to the offense. He's playing half the amount of time as what he did at NIU, so the 8.8 to 3.5 PPG isn't shocking. He was also a 62%, 74%, and 65% FT shooter at NIU. 45.5% from the line this year is atrocious, but he has a comparatively very small sample size with only 22 total attempts on the year. The disappointment with Thornton comes from the lack of offensive firepower we have in the backcourt. Otherwise, we're getting exactly what he was at NIU. 1 Quote

We've been spoiled with guard transfers like X and LCJ. We need to realize that some guys may be brought in to provide decent depth, not be stars. 3 Quote

The flip side would be that you'd hope the guy averaging 9 a night would contribute and fight for starting minutes as a senior, not be relegated to a 10 minute a night (maybe) backup role. 1 Quote

Thornton started 17 games last year for NIU, and averaged 13 points/7 assists in those games. I expected he would start and pitch in close to that. Instead, he's barely in the rotation. He's been a huge disappointment. Edited March 7, 2024 by Zippy87 1 Quote
