2024 Zips Weekly

Recommended Posts

I think it was a good, thorough assessment of the team.

Zips fans will like Finley. He has some of Charlie Frye's traits, with the ability to both run and pass. He is slight of build, so hopefully he knows how to slide too. If he gets time in the pocket, he will hit WR's downfield.

The Nunnaly, Fish, McCoy trio is our best hope to slow down Ohio State. They are three Big 10 caliber players. Bennett Adler looks to be in great shape. He's my all-MAC sleeper pick.

Our OL is a complete unknown. I hope they surprise me. Their performance, and the injury bug, at the two most critical factors in the 2024 Zips going 3-9, or 6-6.

We'll hit on 70% of our FG's this season. Who kicks them remains to be seen.

I see Norton as the #1 WR this season. Adams is a question mark. He was not a factor in the scrimmages I watched. I think the other guys are solid, and Finley will have no problem finding open WR's to throw to.

I like our DL in MAC play. Good size, depth and experience.

CB's are a small concern. I like our safeties.

If Kellom and Simmons stay healthy, we will be better at RB than last year. Both are capable of seamlessly replacing Lingard, and upgrades over Anderson.

The fun starts on Saturday. Hope we get out of it injury-free, while having punched the Buckeye's in the nose a couple times.

I see he still hasn't showered or received his assortment of UA apparel items.

Perhaps they'll turn on the lights for next week's show.

Maybe he won’t get any Akron gear until Monday morning when that $1.8 million dollar check clears?

Ok, this is a big step forward. He’s got on Akron gear this time - granted, it’s the old script logo but this is a move in the right direction! Maybe we still need one more big check from Rutgers to get him totally updated. Seriously though, thanks for posting this, it’s good to get some insight on what is going on with the program

While we ask Joe to clean up his act I'd like to ask the equipment manager to give the players white shirts for under their jerseys. That way when they pull up their white jersey over their bellies they don't show a wide band of blue, almost like a cumberbun. It makes us look like we've got no pride in the uni. This has been a pet peeve of mind since last season. Agree with me or not, but I feel the team has to project pride in their appearance and play. End of rant.

There's this weird trend in football and has been going on for years. It's even been added to video games.

Players wearing big baggy undershirts that are sometimes a different color than the actual jersey. Really doesn't make any sense to me because manufacturers talk about all this technology that makes jerseys lighter, tighter, more breathable, etc. Yet wearing a big shirt underneath all that just defeats the purpose. Not only that, it gives defenders something else to grab onto.

Could be worse though. Remember when a Duquesne football player went viral for looking like Fred Mertz out there?

I thought about this interview recently and watched it again. Specifically, the final third of the interview is telling about the state of college football and specifically Akron. It sounds to me like Joe has had enough. I said this after we replaced a home game against Kentucky with a road game at OSU and I'll say it again...Joe is too good of a coach to work somewhere that gives him little to zero support. Wait, the don't give zero support They give negative support in that they make his job more difficult, not easier. For his own sake, Joe needs to get out of Akron.

Is it just me or does he just seem so defeated? I just don’t get any sense of confidence that he will, or can, fix this.

When his "Charlie Weis' decided schematic advantage" offense got all the way to 5-24 so far...yeah, he probably doesn't have much confidence.
