This team is hard to watch for me. I don’t know if it’s the new style of play where they seem to be playing faster than their abilities or the fact I don’t know who any of them are, but I have never been less excited about Zips basketball. I’m hoping my attitude changes

I don't think they're playing faster than their abilities.  I think they're just still adapting to a ton of new faces and a new offense.  In simple terms, growing pains.

It's definitely a much, much different style of basketball than we have been playing. I agree we don't look comfortable yet, and that's led to some really ugly possessions. You just have to hope and believe they'll find it and click at some point. There's definitely a lot of talent on the roster.

We need to do better as a team of rebounding. They missed a total of 35 field goals. Of those St. Mary's got 20 offensive rebounds on their misses. That's just not a winning formula.

Even if it means sacrificing fast break opportunities, we need all 5 defenders crashing the glass.

I think the new offensive philosophy was brought into focus by an injured Evan Wilson on the bench in a boot during the Ohio Wesleyan.  On more than one occasion I saw him up on his feet urging the team with his arm motions to get moving up the court after a defensive rebound!

I'm going with Clark on this.  Im gathering Groce is trying to figure out who are going to be his crunch time guys he can depend upon when they game is close during March.  I like this team, and I'm excited about the season.

As for Tavari...

The two ways you run successfully is to (1) rebound, which is the easiest. (2) You have to win between the free throw lines with defense/steals/turnovers, which is harder to do over the course of a 30-game season.

We'll see how it looks after 5-10 more games.

St Mary's finally lost, by four to Arizona St. Now 7-1. As a side note, in that I deal with some foreigners sometimes, this is why English sucks. State, Street and Saint all have the same abbreviation. 🤣
