Getting comical at this point.

Something must be going on within the program. These losses to the portal are crippling. We cannot build. All we can do is hope to replace with new, unproven talent. I think we all know how that will turn out. I agree that it is so bad it's comical because I would rather laugh than cry. So why are these tears welling up in my eyes?

I hope not. I think this is the new norm unfortunately. Even Tennessee had 11 players in the portal prior to the playoff game.

Well the problem is the boys only get $1100 a month. They have to pay rent and eat off of that. They do not even get a meal plan. This a D2 program equivalent. A collective is needed and fast!!!!

They don’t get a meal plan!? Wow

That is insane that they do not get a meal plan. I’m sure there’s more small things that they don’t get that would help.

I’ve been a broken record on this but only because I heard back in the summer this is why multiple coaches including Moorhead went through the roof when the school announced the Browns partnership. Even without a collective up and running, money like that from administration could have funded some type of meal/nutrition programs for football but also other sports programs like baseball and softball, soccer etc.

Foundation and maintaining some level of momentum starts from the inside, regardless of NIL which is also critical to get and retain talent. With the provost running the budget and the new President focused on marketing and enrollment?, the ability to build and meet the basic needs for UA athletics appears to be losing steam, just the reality.

We all know basketball has the luxury of Wentz getting them whatever they need and that’s great as basketball is our gem and they need to keep winning and beating KSU! But as a supporter of programs like baseball where the absence of NIL hurts but lack of university level support for the basics that athletes have had in the past is frustrating.

I’m sure it is magnified much more for football (also beating KSU!$). It will be interesting to see even with Moorhead sitting tight, the level of turnover he will have on his staff. As shared by others in this thread a few already jumping ship. A feather in his cap, since he’s been here he has been able to retain the majority of his coaches over the offseason which frankly is rare for a program that has struggled to win. I’m rooting for him but can’t imagine the frustration.

Wonder if he would still have a spot here if he fails to find another?

We usually carry 7 scholarship LBs, so there is a spot still open. My guess is we’ll fill it with an upperclassman from the portal. We have a ton of young talent at this position and our oldest LB is a rising redshirt sophomore.

In case anyone needed one more swift kick to the nether regions, Jordon Simmons has hit the portal.

What are the positives going into 2025? I can think of starting caliber QB and talented but inexperienced underclassmen.

Portal additions and offers out don’t particularly excite me. Also if the young inexperienced talent plays well then they will be off for a “better situation”.

There is something going on within the program. Simmons departure makes no sense. Was he suggested to leave so a complete rebuild could occur? I don't think so, but nothing makes sense. Most of our players who have left will not find NIL money. Do they want to play for a winner? Maybe, but at UA they had their spots won and the program was heading upward. If they had really bought in as Joe has said repeatedly not this many would be leaving. They could have been comfortable, but they chose to leave for the chaos of the TP. Why? There has to be more here than we are aware.
