MAC - SB Classic Year 3

Another year of this fun battle that I always ramble on about! I’ve seen multiple sources project Akron/MAC winner a 12 seed and the first step to get there is by beating up the Sun Belt. It’ll also be a great chance for the women to start the season with a big win

This is definitely the most interesting classic I’ve seen so far. With the addition of UMASS I think it will help put the MAC over the top. Troy is the highest ranked Sun belt team and they are only 124. If 2 of the directionals/NIU can get a scrappy win we should win this round. Every game counts. MACtion vs the world🔥

Finally Marshall makes it in to the challenge

Impressive start to the season for MAC teams. The home courts were definitely defended.

UMASS is going to lose to Marshall who was picked 6th in the SBC preseason poll. Not a strong start to their MAC tenure.

The MAC is going to win round 1, and UMass, Toledo,  Ohio,  and Kent all lost.

And you have to figure that we will be playing a team that is not quite as good as JMU who are the best in the Sun Belt. Although we will be playing on the road, we will likely be in mid-season form playing the Sun Belt's second best team. I like our chances. That also means that the second best MAC team will probably have to go to JMU, which is certainly a team that will benefit from playing half a season together.

Should end up 9-4 if NIU holds its double digit lead. Which means wed need to win 6 to clinch this in the second round. Great start for the MAC this year. Such a fun time. Really wish they scattered the games more!

Unfortunately I don’t think the MAC-SBC is benefiting the women as the men.They went 5-8 on the road which is decent but the mac preseason favorite Kent got smoked by SBC favorite JMU by 32. Hopefully the home slate goes better but it feels like the gap is wider

Kent losing means from my Zippy colored glasses that the MAC really went 6-7 on the road.

 

I don't really follow women's hoops. I'm not sure if Kent was expected to be like a Akron/Miami on the men's side as a step up from the competition or if they were just expected to be marginally better than everyone else.
