I still find this hard to believe. I get people buying one $75 season ticket to try to win but I just can’t understand why anyone would purchase a suite based on this promotion.

I don't think anyone bought a suite to specifically enter the raffle. The stadium as a whole has 17 suites and I imagine the University keeps one of those to themselves to whine and dine. That means really only 16 are available.

Some amount of those were already filled. I don't think it's unlikely that 3-4 high networth alumni or area businesses got caught up in the excitement surrounding the program and decided to buy a suite. $15K to a Cleveland-Cliffs, Goodyear, Timken, etc. is immaterial on company financials.

Pretty soon, Sports Center will want be there for this.  What else are they going to talk about on opening weekend?  I can at least see a live interview in front of the Heisman statue.

It's week 2 and Ohio State plays at Texas that day. Unless we beat Wake Forest and the flu cancels the Ohio State/Texas game, I'm going to temper national attention expectations on gameday haha. However, I could see a Barstool podcast doing a "gameday" from Akron on that Saturday.

The announcement, which also elicited nearly 2,000 quote-tweets, was the most-viewed X post by any college football team this summer, according to digital analytics firm Zoomph.

Wild stat.

Barstool's BigCat said he bought $600 worth of season tickets, so it's not just 1 entry people are buying. I also think there's a general sentiment where it's fun to support creative programs like this. Like Kreed said, the decimal point is moved to the left quite a bit for some of the larger local companies and it's a negligible use of funds. Very feasible for our affordable "luxury" suites to be sold it (and should be).

You know there is going to be a LOT of buildup around that very first play call and when it is called.

Guarantee all over every sports network.  Whatever the call is it will be all over ESPN and everywhere...

Better make that first play a razzle dazzle.

This would be my script.

Play 1:  Run something unexpected and difficult to defend because the defense never has to defend it. I formation, one TE to the right. Fullback dive to the right. In 2026 it's a trick play and would probably get 6-7 yards.

Play 2 Take out fullback and put him on the bench for the rest of the season and replace with a receiver. Run an easy to complete 5 yard pass for a first down.

Play 3: Same formation. Get physical up the middle again.

Play 4:  Same formation. Bobble the snap and fall on it for a 10 yard loss. You know it's going to happen. Just work it into practice and execute it properly.

Play 5:  I have a friend who is a complete Eeyore when our group of friends watches football together. When it's third and long he always says they should just punt. We call him The Master Of The Third Down Punt. In honor of my friend, I'd punt on third down.

You have to wonder how Robert Morris is taking all this in.  They have all kind of incentive to blow this up in our face.  If I were Joe, I would challenge everyone(staff and players) to come up with the craziest play to start the drive.  TD or flop, a crazy play would be on every show's highlight real.  You just can't buy this kind of pub!

Wake is probably wondering what kind of circus is coming to town for their opener.  Could we really surprise them?  Motivation is a funny thing.  Can you imagine  what this is doing to practice right now?  When you have the football world looking at you positively, you will have a little extra "giddy up" in every drill, every play every day.  In the season thread, I very optimistically predicted 7 wins for the season.  This could make the whole season something special.

Joe said he hasn't really seen any reactions from players regarding this. It said its been business as usual. Whether that's true or not who knows.

They don't care. Their coach will try to use it as motivation and they won't care. There will be more articles about it and they won't care.

Playera transfer at the drop of a hat because they don't care.

You mentioned before that you're a former Akron football player. How would you feel about this as an Akron player? Would you think you're being treated unseriously or would you appreciate the extra attention this would generate?

i personally am already excited about the season. I can't wait. I know we are not the only undefeated team in the MAC right now but i think we may catch some teams by surprise. I think this defensive line is going to be better than last year and I think they are really going to get pressure on the qbs. Tibs is a great coordinator and I think this publicity is only the beginning.

ZIPS are going from bowl ban to bowl bound...  stamp it !!!

@kreed5120.Who cares what GP1 thinks.  He is just a Negative Nanny.

I'm a former Zip football player.  This is really a no brainer.  Players will always tell you that they are extra motivated when we play a P4.  When the spotlight is on the game, players are motivated.  How much excitement do you feel coming from the players when we play on a rainy Tuesday night in front of friends and family?

Between going to class, studying, practice, lifting weights drinking beer and trying to get laid, I didn't have time to think about this nonsense.
