kreed5120 Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 I didn't like our last few offensive possessions. We forced up several tough shots with time left on the shot clock. We need to eliminate these open court turnovers. Also, perhaps send less double teams. It's leaving a lot of open looks from 3. 1 Quote

It’s not even like Yale where we have a clear target on the doubles, most of them aren’t in good positions on the court for a double 1 Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Even with bad defense, there is no way Toledo stays this hot for the entire second half. When they cool off (and maybe when we start playing good defense), they will panic and get desperate. Quote
csims0917 Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Toledo comes out hot and we have a red hot chat😂 Quote
Reslife4Life Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Amani 0 3PA in the first half, he could be the key to getting back in this 1 Quote

If a player sees a few easy ones go in it makes the challenging shots later in the game easier to hit as they're in rhythm and not second guessing themselves. Its best to jump on these teams early to assert dominance. 2 Quote

The turnovers were way worse than the defense. Not saying the defense was perfect or even good, but I didn't see bad defense. We had 7 takeaways and the majority of their scoring came from hot shooting, not defensive breakdowns. Most of the time we can't physically play better defense without risking fouling. I also don't understand our defensive scheme. We actively look to double then people get pissed when there is a man left open. Our personnel just doesn't lend itself to shutdown defense and we compound that deficiency with the doubling scheme. Unless there are rotations not being executed, we're gonna have to live with a few open shots here and there. Edited January 28 by Let'sGoZips94 Quote
MDZip Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Halligan getting a lot of playing time. Guess John trying to impress on them that defense matters. 1 Quote

Agree on the turnovers. Edited January 28 by clarkwgriswold Quote

Agree on the turnovers. As a coach he has to be. But it's also his fault for not recruiting a viable big to clog the lane. A couple Toledo possessions ago, we doubled the ball at the top of the key with Lyles and Evan M. Toledo passed out of it and left Scott and another guard as the lone defenders in the post. Defensive game plan was clearly executed, but Toledo played out of it and the obvious flaw was found. Toledo is playing extremely well offensively and I just don't see how we're supposed to stop them with the personnel we have. It's up to our offense to produce and Toledo to cool off.
