Zipmeister
Grading on the hill... I suspect grass (or sod) will be coming soon. Not sod. It doesn't work on a sloped bank. That's what they've said. Grass seating won't be available this season. Fall is a good time to plant grass. It lies dormant over the winter and begins to grow in the spring. It should be ready for 2010.Wrong.
interfx
Quick question, I've been wondering why the stands are two different colors? Especially on the lower deck, at the 50? I can't figure it out via the webcams, and was wondering in person what this is?

The 50 is for priority reserved and includes the East side lower stands and the West side upper and lower stands.

The lower bowl 50-yard line sections (both east & west stands) have them.

BostonZip
The roofs have to be designed to hold up the weight of 14,000 extra seats and fans. I think they should throw on a few more layers for good measure. As stealth as those bomb shelter entrances are, I would still doubt that they would bear any load should additional seating be added above. I would think the seating would be built with similar steel support as the east and west stands -- hey, maybe those columns for the wrought iron fence are strategically placed to be the base for future steel? Never know. Also, looking at the height of the north end zone building and its proximity to the field, if seating were added above, would not virtually all the fans be unable to see the back of the end zone? As nice as it will be to have the grassy knoll behind the south end zone, I think that end actually is more conducive to adding additional permanent seating. The sights lines certainly would be better.

The scoreboard could be raised a little like at most other stadiums. Making the horseshoe with an open end anchored by the end zone building complex. UADavid
Stopped on Spicer St. and watched them tear down scaffolding on the backside of the east stands. They surrounded the steel uprights with brick to the top of the stands, but the wall covering the rest of the steel structure stops on third of the way up. With the scaffold coming down, it doesn't appear the wall will go all the way to the top. Does anyone have any information on this?

UA Fan
Grass seating won't be available this season. Fall is a good time to plant grass. It lies dormant over the winter and begins to grow in the spring. It should be ready for 2010.I haven't heard one way or another if they will sod or seed. One thing I do know is that you don't seed in August without one heck of a watering system in NEO. You can begin to seed in September and grass will grow into November in NEO.They could have seeded it over 2 months ago!I have planted grass in late spring before.Hell, even if it's not lush, it would have been thick enough to take a couple of saturdays worth of wear in the fall. There is no reason not to have tried to plant grass on there in April when it was graded. Even if it wasn't thick enough to seat people, at least it would have been nice and green for games instead of dirt city. What would that have been? $500 worth of seed? Oh noez were over budget nowz!epic failNew grass takes more than a few months to mature before it's ready for hundreds of Rowdies jumping around on it and it's better to seed in the fall. Not an epic fail. Let's give them some credit for getting the stadium built in a year and a half, on time and on budget. The Rowdies will make their presence felt just fine in the student section this fall.

I think this could have been done. And as I said, even if the grass wasn't established enough for traffic, at the very least you could have had the area looking good by fall. We're probably (if the marketing department ever starts doing their job) going to have a lot of "new Zips fans" there for at least the first few games. Do we really want them looking at big dirt banks? Is that really one of the memories we want them going home with. "Well the seats were nice and new, but the landscape.........."Any way you cut it, this is a major disappointment.

The stuff I put in this spring is doing GREAT! The stuff I put in over the summer came in strong, but quickly faded when the weather got hot, sun was beating down, and watering once a day wasn't cutting it anymore. Maybe if they really keep it watered it will stick and be ready for the season. My prediction is it will look GREAT at 11:00 AM on Sept. 12 and be ripped to schreds by 4:00 that afternoon. I don't think the roots will be developed enough to hold the grass in place. Time will tell....
tbozeglav
Personally, I dont think they are expecting anyone to sit on the lawn by gameday on the 12th. However, I do think they will be doing everything they can to make it presentable on TV by then. The University will definitely be watering it as much as they can without the dirt eroding. The university has a very expansive watering system in place for all the lawns, and I am sure they did the same here.
