1981 grad

I just bought access to the game. I thought it was an app I could watch on my tv but it looks like I need to watch through the computer. Arena looks empty for the first game. Picture looks decent.

Looking forward to this game. The great Akron teams always had great guard play. Johnson and Scott have been playing very well. Our defense and rebounding has been our weakness and in our last game we rebounded the ball very well. This team has gotten better as Barre has improved and has received more minutes. I like Marvin's hustle and game but he is undersized at the 5 and just not strong enough against opposing centers with height. Would love to see another blowout win.

I did not realize this was a one game event. I thought it was a tourney where a team would advance. Glad we get a good opponent but disappointed the Zips only get one game.

Although he is with the team, he was still inactive for tonights game.

Great discussion on whether this may be Groce's best team but we will need to wait till the end of the season. I have been wrong on so many things. I never saw Lyles developing into a scorer after his first year. I also was not happy with Scott because he did not penetrate his first year and missed layups if somebody was close to him. The progress these guys made under Groce is amazing. I always thought Tavari would be a player but took a bunch of criticism for people on this board who wanted him to transfer. The point being is that it is impossible to predict how this team will do this year but everyone should be happy on what we have seen thus far. If we can improve our rebounding, (like yesterday), toughness, and defense, maybe that elucive first win in the ncaa tourney may be in our future.

After the Tulane game, I think that Akron's 2 losses to Purdue and Yale were probably 2 of our better played games. I thought we played OK against Tulane but we played much better against Purdue and Yale. In other words, this team can play ok basketball and win on the road against a decent team. It is very early in the season but this might be one of Groce's most talented teams. Time will tell.

Tevari currently playing as well as any Akron guard that I have seen in the past.

Love the effort on the boards by the Zips. It seems that with the zone it gives us numerous opportunities to hit the boards. We seem to be the more physical team which I am sure pleases Groce. Tevari just continues to play well making the open shot and finding the open man. Marvin needs to make them bunnies!!

Just too many mistakes!!! The own goal, the weak Pk, the red card putting us down by one, the hand ball in the box and a defender got faked out on the last goal.

Great header but terrible defense. Nobody was marking him when he scored the goal. Go Zips!!!!

On the app search menu type in Akron. Or go to the soccer and it is listed. I am streaming it now.

I knew the Zips had been shooting the ball well but I did not know that we were 52% from the field and 40% from the three line. Tevari is having a breakout season averaging 18 points a game and Lyles is averaging 15 and Scott 13. The shooting has just been off the charts this year and if we can maintain those averages we will be tough to beat especially with our speed of play. We just need better defense and better rebounding. We do not have anybody averaging 6 rebounds per game. This team is built for speed and we lack both height and girth in rebounding. I think Barre may give us more under the boards and he also has a few blocks in limited play. I hope he stays healthy and starts clearing the boards for the Zips.

It is a complete mystery whether this is good or bad for Freeman. He is a starter for the Iowa Wolves and will get to play instead of just sitting the bench in Minnesota.

Thanks for the updates!!! I guess they are giving him an opportunity to practice with the team to see how he is progressing and where he fits into the future. The Timberwolves have not had any injuries so they have had no reason to call anybody up from the G league to place them on the active roster. They have 3 two way players, Juzang, Freeman and Zicarsky. Juzang has been with the team but hardly playing while Zicarsky and Freeman have been starters in the G league. I wonder if they will rotate the 3 way players and now send Juzang down to Iowa and keep Freeman on the Timberwolves.

Can anyone give me an update on Freeman. I went to watch him on espn for the Iowa Wolves and he was not playing. When I look at the roster for the Timberwolves for todays game he is not listed on their roster. Anyone have an update?

I have a request for the moderator. Can we move all the discussions about Groce leaving into its own thread like we have in football, "Coach Joe Rumor Page" I have no problems with people posting about rumors 4 weeks into the season but this thread is about Mac basketball 2025-2026, not about decisons Groce will makes 4 months from now.

Reghi makes a good point about Lyles in that he only averaged 2 points a game as a sophmore and is now averaging 14 points per game with back to back 20 point games. However, you can also make the same argument about Tevari and Scott. These 3 guysl have really improved their game in year 3. Give them credit and give Groce credit.

Bucknell started to miss some open threes and that made all the difference so that we could pull ahead by 13. Also, a nice steal by the Zips. It looks like we have 9 man rotation with Stankovic being the odd man out right now. I think he has to be more aggressive on defense. Between Barre and Stankovic, I think it would be Barre since we need a rim protector. I thought based on all the hoopla on this board that he was a starter for Duquesne. Instead, he only average 4 points. He seems to fit in well with this team.

We lost out on a bowl game because of a home loss to Kent in overtime. At the start of the season, can anyone in their right mind think that would happen. This football team is cursed. How do we remove this curse?

When you look at the Akron team, you have you have 3 guys who have played together for several years that have just prospered under Groce. Meanwhile, Nate gets paid big bucks but is thrown in with an entirely new team and new coach. I think there will be an adjustment period for the players to come together as a team or the coach paid big bucks for guys who just cannot play well together. Time will tell.

I just turned the game on and now it is 17. Great road win for BG.

That had to be the most awful PK I have ever seen. I actually felt sorry for the player that kicked it. What was he thinking? Also, the first guy who missed a PK did not play in the game but came off the bench cold. My thought at the time was that was a mistake. Happy that it worked out for the Zips.

I agree. I thought I saw our team jaw a little bit after the Creighton game and I did not like it. I think it starts with the coach. Can anyone see our basketball team heckle the home fans after a basketball team? I cannot see Groce tolerating it. The only time I remember this happening was when the Kent team heckled the rowdies after they beat us at the jar a couple of years ago and everyone on this board commented how the Kent team had no class. If the Zips win Saturday we can put this topic to rest.

Because they are scholar athletes and part of a team that should have high standards of conduct. There is a lot of physical conduct on the pitch but after the game the players shake hands. The game is over, the better team won, have some class.
