In the 2nd half Mass reminded me of past Akron teams that were totally outmatched at every position and almost every opposing play was a positive one and we would shoot ourselves in the foot when we did make a good play with a stupid penalty. I give the Mass. coach credit. They finally get a stop in the 2nd half and their defensive back gets a penalty for taunting and Akron keeps the ball. The coach sent the player to the locker room, do not stop at the bench, do not keep your uniform on, just head to the showers. How many times did we see stupid personal fouls from Akron players when the team was winless and getting killed. Taunting when you are 0 and 8 and down by 21 points. Hit the showers.

I do not bet on sports but based on your recent hot streak, I am tempted.

I would also like to see us go to a bowl. We have had such a long streak of losing that winning 6 games and going to a bowl is indicative of a successful season. I hope if we do win 6 we ask the NCAA for an exemption from their ruling we are not bowl eligable and that take them to court if they do not back down. My understanding is that Michigan is bowl eligable because the people who cheated are no longer with the team and the NCAA felt it was wrong to penalize the current team for misdeeds of the people who are no longer with the team. Using that logic, Akron should also be bowl eligible.

I just read that g league players make $40,000 a year unless they are on a 2 way contract like Freeman who makes around $500,000, half the NBA minimum. Therefore, Nate is now making the most money he will probably ever make in his career. In other words, his salary will peak as a college player. I hate that he transferred but I cannot blame him for making this move. This is college athletics. Akron is the G league for major conferences.

I got the impression that when Johnson came into the game as the 3rd QB at the end of the game that he was told to run the ball since we had a big lead and just run out the clock. He then threw a pass and we almost scored. He was immediately yanked so Brookhart could run out the clock. At the end of the game I saw Moorehead go to the Mass coach and it looked like he was apologizing for the pass at the end of the game. These are my impressions but I just cannot see the coach throwing the ball at that point in the game.

Our offense was much better in the 2nd half in that we penetrated, shot the 3 ball well, and had some nice follow up baskets. Lyles had a great game. He has really improved the last 2 years at Akron.

IN the 2nd half Tevari has taken to the hoop and scored. Great penetration. Hardman has improved his defense but he cannot hit the broadside of the barn tonight. Just missed a wide open 3 and it was not even close. Great defense by the Zips but we need somebody to hit an open 3.

Our guard play on offense has not been very impressive. The guards have not been able to penetrate or get open looks. We have missed a lot of open threes. Bad shooting with little penetration gets you bad offense. We need better ball movement and better shooting.

My understanding is that he can be called up at any time. I am sure if one of the Timberwolves bigs suffers an injury he can be added to the roster. The Iowa Wolves are probably starting their practice this week and the season opens I believe on the 8th. It will be interesting how much he has improved as a 2nd year pro.

I have been a Zips football fan after graduating Akron many decades ago and there have been years we were so bad I could not watch our team play more than a half (Coach Arth). Currently, we are good enough to be competitive in the MAC but almost everytime we have a chance to win something happens that pulls me back into the reality that we have a losing program that finds a way to lose games. Last week we had the momentum of scoring and I sensed a comeback and then the lightening and the resumption of play and the kickoff return followed by the Finley interception. When I saw the Captain's optimism that this week will finally be the week it all comes together and we get that underdog road win, I just thought of the following film clip

Freeman has not been on the Timberwolves roster the first 2 games and will probably start out in the G league. Here is a great article on how he may fit on the Timberwolves: https://dunkingwithwolves.com/crucial-aspect-of-enrique-freeman-s-game-should-have-timberwolves-fans-pumped-up

When you give Finley a clean pocket, he can get hot and throw some nice passes. We should keep a back in to block. On one of the sacks I watched the back go out for a pass when a lineman had a straight shot at the QB. That 96 yard drive is the best of the season and hopefully give the offense some confidence. It is so nice watching the opposing team make stupid plays like pushing our QB in the back out of bounds drawing a penalty and helping that drive.
