  4. Poorly written, I think they mean the top 4 seeds will host first round games. They also spelled unanimous incorrectly, so I think it’s just lousy writing by a Big East intern.
  5. I don't think I realized until the press release on GoZips.com that the Big East tournament appears to be only 4 teams this year instead of 8. Has anyone seen this anywhere else?
  6. Georgetown and Akron are favored to win their Big East divisiosn https://www.bigeast.com/news/2025/8/19/akron-and-georgetown-favored-in-big-east-mens-soccer-coaches-polls.aspx

  15. My first year as a Zip was 1962. We played Baldwin-Wallace with 36,000 Acme Zip fans in attendance. Since our marching band needed to form their A single file, I think it was Alliquipa(?) HS band that was brought in to perform. When we came out to warm up, we had to wait for the soccer match to end. They were not playing B-W. I don't think B-W even had a soccer team then. I think soccer played Michigan State (College cup semi-finalist in '62). I looked back , but I couldn't find season results that old. I do remember soccer playing at the highest level with all of the rest of us playing at the college division. A great tradition was started that has been carried on!
  16. I am very appreciative of the Beacon Journal for doing an article on Stu Parry. My prayers and condolences to the Parry family. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2025/08/17/university-of-akron-zips-mens-soccer-first-coach-stu-parry-dies/85700993007/
  17. https://www.summitcountyshof.org/1974 Stu Parry Coach 1974 The man generally regarded as bringing the sport of soccer to Akron U, Parry went on to compile a record of 118 victories and only 43 losses and 4 ties. His teams defeated some of the best in the country, winning nine Ohio College Soccer Association titles and four times entered the NCAA Playoffs. He learned the sport at Western Reserve Academy where he captained the soccer team. Later he gained further honors by being named President of the National Soccer Coaches Association. When he came to Akron U there were only six recognized college teams playing soccer in Ohio. Twice he was chosen Ohio Coach of the Year, in 1966 and '68 and eight of his players made All-America a total of 13 times!

  19. Akron held on to win on the basis of that early score by Fragnoli. 1-0. Not a pretty outcome in the home opener versus a lap dog opponent. We play @West Virginia, a national power this week. Yikes. 😬
  20. Luisa Fragnoli scored first for Akron on a long blast in the fifteenth minute to give the Zips the 1-0 advantage over EIU.
  21. Am I correct that the spread on this game has slipped from an opening 10 pts down to 7.5? I live in a Mountain West city ‐‐ Honolulu, and have some sense about the league. The Cowboys are in the bottom half - to bottom third of a league that is clearly top-heavy. I had Akron winning 6 games this season. To get to that summit they MUST win this one first, and if they aren't able to stay close to Wyo then even 5 wins are in doubt. I like the Zips by a TD.
  22. A great man has passed. Everyone who is reading this has been touched by Stu Parry, whether directly or indirectly.
