While I agree this is great and all, it's still not enough. I look at a team like Monmouth, who plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, literally one of the worst conferences in CBB. Right now their overall SOS is 153, while the Zips is 160. They are currently 6-2 against top 100 teams, including a 2-2 record against top 25 teams. Their OOC schedule, in which they played 4 top 25 teams and 2 top 100 teams, had an SOS of 48. Akron's was 266. You can't get marquee wins if you don't even give yourself an opportunity to play against a marquee opponent more than once a year.3 points

This guy has just impressed the Hell out of me this year. He's matured into the guy that every team needs to be successful. I know that he'd love to be a more vital part of the offense, who wouldn't, but he laces them up every night and does everything he's asked to do, like vital minutes he put in at the 5 spot tonight. He has accepted his role and his contributions to this team on both ends of the floor should not be overlooked because he has been a key component to our success.2 points

I'm calling my shot: Zips make it to the MAC Championship this season. Go Zips!2 points

I'll assume he meant "MAC" and not NFL. And in the past 20 years, "Best Defensive Zip"accolades could be argued amongst Smith, Taylor & Brown. Blackburn had a nice NFL career, but in his college days he wasn't the gamechanger that was Dwight Smith.1 point

I share your stance on scheduling, but we did play the current #1 team in the country this season...That's progress at least.1 point

So on the 1350 am postgame show they had Dambrot on and they were talking about the elite 21+ win company the Zips are in. One of the broadcasters jokingly asked when we are going to see one of those other 21+ win club teams on their schedule. Dambrot said those other teams would happily schedule Akron and would pay them a lot of money to do so. This debunks a few peoples myths that these teams are too scared to schedule Akron. My question is why not schedule one of these cash grab games a year? I'd give Akron a fighting chance vs. OSU in Columbus this year. A loss and they would need to likely rely on a MAC tourney win to get in just like every other year. A win and their resume actually might get a 2nd look come selection time.1 point

I think that 50-29 rebound is a misprint. According to the box score it was 40-29, which is still a concern. The Zips managed to offset much of the -11 rebound differential by being +7 in the turnover department. What sunk them vs. NIU is that they got dominated on the boards and they lost the turnover battle. I wouldn't look at the rebounding numbers too hard for this game. Pat was out and Cheatham got into early foul trouble which forced Akron to play small much of the 1st half. UB countered by playing big and forced mismatches. Protecting the paint and preventing dribble drive penetration, especially in transition before the defense is set, has been a problem with the Zips all season. Odds are the Zips will lose the points in the paint battle mostly every game as they rely on other means for points. They scored 54 points alone last night from 3s and free throws. They still need to work on limiting the points in the paint they allow. That's their Achilles heel.1 point

DIG is the most missed person on ZNO. Of all the people that have come and gone, DIG is one that I wish wouldn't have "left."1 point

We've been saying that for 26 games now - I think everyone is more than okay with it by now. They're usually falling.1 point

This one's pretty easy right now. Win 4 out of the last 5 and we're overall MAC Champs. Win 3 out of the last 5 and either OU, Ken+ or Ball State have to win ALL of their remaining games to force a tie. We WIN the tiebreaker against Ball State by being 1-0 against them this year, and no games remaining between us. The only way OU can catch us is to beat us at home (to go 1-1 against us this year), win all of their other games, and hope we lose one other remaining game to force a secondary tiebreaker. The tiebreaker against Ken+ is still up in the air since we still play them twice. But, Ken+ would still have to beat us twice, and win all of their other remaining games. Moral of the Story.....It's going to be very difficult for us to lose the Overall MAC Regular Season Title right now.1 point

So here is my question: WHERE IS DIG WHEN WE NEED HIM. Wondering what the magic numbers are now. We do NOT have to win all our games to win the MAC. However, there must be several permutations where we can lose 2 or three games and still win the MAC, Anyone done the numbers yet?1 point

I've seen bigger crowds at Infocision... Not much bigger, but bigger Sloppy game, but one that they could of let slip away but they didn't1 point

Who absolutely should have been the MVP of that game but his second pick six came after the voting was done - idiotic that they used to pick an MVP before the game was done.1 point

Wow! They were down THIRTEEN??!! (I was working this p.m., so too busy to follow closely). But -- was anyone REALLY afraid we were going to get blown out at that point (down 36-23)? That's because we know how resilient this team is -- and what 3-pointability it has!1 point

I agree!! Kwan played with a big pair of _____. He picked up some great defensive boards and had some great blocks. He did not play much in the first half but I thought he was great defensively in the second half. This team needed some toughness and he held his own under the basket. I think he has found his role on this team as a distributor on offense and a rebounder and shot blocker on defense. I hope to see more of his tough defense at Kent.1 point

Just frustrating.. A school with a not-so-huge fanbase and they do such a crap job with the people that actually do care, let alone creating new fans.1 point

Makes you wonder how our espn3 broadcasts will go next year. I sent a tweet to Sidearmsports but their account has been inactive since January 30.1 point

The major point of the author is - "Despite the football team having a winning record, attendance did not improve." That is asinine. The weather was a contributing factor. It rained virtually every game. But the author needed Larry Williams to inform him. The team finished 8-5. Winning their last 5 games. So when the season was 60% complete, the Zips were 3-5. The author somehow believes the Zips home attendance should have shown a massive improvement with 2 home games remaining, heading into November with a 3-5 record. That's asinine. The University of Akron constructed a new football stadium and entrusted it to Tom Wistercill. Wistercill could have hired anyone to get the Zips football program rolling, and he chose Rob Ianello. The same Rob Ianello that went 1-11 for two consecutive seasons and essentially took napalm to our football program. The same Rob Ianello that has since been fired at Kansas, and is now a sideline toadie at Buffalo. THAT is the article that should be written. But that takes investigation and effort, and dolts need to write about simple stuff. So it never will be written. Can't wait for that same stupid tripe to be written for the 4th time in about 3 months. Nice job ABJ.1 point

Regarding Tassel Cap-gate 2015: At least the students that U-turned through the turnstiles got Akron hats to wear around campus. When I've gone to basketball games I've spotted many of them. If a Zips hat replaced a Buckeye hat on campus, that's a win.1 point

As I approach my 50th year on the planet, whether I get a doll or a tassel cap means increasingly less. Hope whomever gets their dolls enjoys them. And those who don't find the appropriate therapist to make peace with it.1 point
