  1. Ya think? The fact that a team that plays as badly as the Zips can get the words "bowl chances" in a message board post proves one thing. There are too many bowls.

  2. I'm ready for the basketball season to start. I don't think I can watch another Zips football game this season.

  3. Offense needs to adjust to not having Woodson now. 3rd and 2 and you can't just throw it up and hope for a catch. Run the ball or do a shorter, higher percentage throw!

  4. The Indians magical run to the 7th game of the world Series correctly had many Beacon Journal writers focused on our favorite baseball team. I am always glad to see the zips featured in articles by Marla Ridenour. I hope this helps attendance for the MAC tourney. The zips always play better with a large crowd. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-men-s-soccer-senior-adam-najem-s-role-less-visible-but-no-less-important-as-zips-try-to-qualify-for-ncaa-tournament-1.725754?cache=18961415304345%2Fnews%2Fohio%2Fcss%2Fresults.css%2Frk%3D0

  6. Play calling plays a big factor I'd say. Chapman's strengths aren't the same as Woodson's yet Akron OC is stubborn in not wanting to alter his game plan to fit the strengths of his QB. With Chapman in they should do more QB draws, bubble screens, and higher percentage passes over the middle of the field. Instead they still try to dial up the long ball even though that's not his strength.

  7. When the post mortem of this season is done in 2 weeks,I think we have to look at the season from Game 1 and not just from the point where injuries started happening. Look at the offensive side from Game 1. Look at the defensive side from game 1. Ask whether recruiting is adequate to keep up with the changes that invariably occur on MAC rosters. Ask whether the type of players being recruited is appropriate for the situation as it stands at Akron now. Ask whether the coaching staff is getting the most out of the players it has chosen. There are certainly some positives but there are also deficiencies. I saw both at that game last night. But,as frustrating as this season has been, wait until after OU.

  8. I didn't even realize the games overlapped until now. But yeah, I'm definitely going to the jar. I'd rather watch the Zips beat up on some cupcake instead of being OU's cupcake and losing to them for a 9th straight year.

  9. That's what I was thinking. They would rather put a WR out there instead of their 3rd QB?? Why is he even here if that's the case?

  12. #10 for BGSU is a POS. No way JoJo deserved to get thrown out of that game unless he did too

  15. Will take a chill pill for a minute and say that I'm proud of how Goodman has played so far. That dude seems like he has been here forever and I hope he leads us to a comeback win. He deserves it.

  16. Say what you will, but just when I thought the team had lost its heart, here they are battling back with a guy who has not played QB during his entire college career, with the exception of a couple of trick plays. I was ready to go to bed after a late night last night, but hat's off to these kids for learning what means to give it your all when the chips are down.

  17. The defense actually made an adjustment after the first series. They were playing 10 yards off the receivers and that resulted in several first downs. In the second and third series they were playing right on the receivers. The defense has held 3 times forcing 2 punts. Now we need the offense.

  18. Why does everyone seem to forget that we already have Jamal Davis (Pitt), James King (Miami), and Tony Jones (Troy/Juco) - not sure if he is sitting out or not- waiting to step in at LB next season? I have no doubt the LB corps will be much improved next season. Bell moving to DE and being productive there would be nice as well to fill another hole.

  19. Marcus was our best returning defensive lineman, and we lost him for the entire season. Boxen was our best interior lineman, and he's missing the complete 2nd half of the season. Moore and others have missed multiple games. For a group that was already thin, it was too much to overcome. How do you replace Coe, Grice, Monroe, Evans, Brown and Marcus? That's a tall order. Our front 7 is no doubt terrible. But if Marcus and Boxen had relatively healthy seasons, it would have been good enough to win another game or 2. Hope the free agent crop is good this spring. If I'm a decent DL or LB grad transfer, I'm pretty excited to join Chuck Amato, where I can be pretty much guaranteed I'm gonna get a lot of playing time, and have the support of a high-scoring offense. Next season could be awesome, but we need some serious defensive help.

  20. The entire offense except RB (with reason) is light years better from last season and its really not even close.

  21. We had the best defense in the MAC last season I'll give you that. But do you honestly believe our defense was really one of the 15 best nationally when we gave up 41 and 59 points to the only 2 high powered offenses we encountered? We benefited from padding our numbers against teams like Kent, Eastern Michigan, UMass, Buffalo, and Savannah State. Our defense didn't have to play Bama, OSU, Michigan State, Baylor, TCU, Clemson, Florida State, etc. on a week to week basis. Akron's defense by yards per game gave up 329 which was 17th, meanwhile, Oklahoma gave up 351 which placed them 31st. We saw these teams play one another. Can you honestly tell me you thought Akron's D > Oklahoma's D?
