I have a great idea for a basketball promotion - By my calculations 96% of all 2016-17 stuffed basketballs and tee shirts have landed in the lower seats. Why not have all the cheerleaders walk up the stairs to the unwashed masses in the upper level, and toss them balls and tee shirts? I could care less if I get a tee shirt...I have enough to last 15 lifetimes in my dresser drawers. But I see all the general admission kids jumping and screaming at the arena rails during the give-aways and don't understand why they get ignored, while granny blue hair gets lobbed her 23rd tee-shirt and 13th ball of the season? On a positive note - Thank God they don't mention Tim Miller Insurance Agency after every three pointer this season.2 points

TennZip posted this link in the "2017 Zips in the Pro Leagues..." thread, but I think it also belongs here; the 2017 GA class listing is a sign that Jonathan Lewis is staying. Please let that be true. I really want to see Jonathan up close in a Zips uniform for at least one more year. He's so much fun to watch. http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/01/04/mls-announces-2017-generation-adidas-class-and-senior-signings2 points

It's often easy to find fault with things and harp on those, but as we begin this New Year, I feel the need to give kudos to Coach Embick and Staff for the continued great Mens Soccer Program that we enjoy and sometimes under-appreciate. Some of our recent accomplishments include: Although 2016 didn't end as we all had high hopes that it would, the team overcame some adversity and won the MAC Regular Season and Tourney for the 5th year in a row. We hosted an NCAA Tournament game and advanced to the round of 32. 3 of our players graduated joining many of us as UA Alumni...and all graduated with honors...Victor Souto, Summa Cum Laude and Brad Ruhaak and Danillo Radjen Magna Cum Laude. Brad Ruhaak was the student speaker at his graduation ceremony. Our coaches and staff deserve accolades for this along with our student-athletes. I'll add that I believe Tyler Sanda is on track to graduate from UA in the Spring, and last I knew, he was on track to do so Summa Cum Laude (and I think go on to medical school) Some of our players are in the mix to go pro, or possibly go pro Victor Souto has signed with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Danilo Radjen is invited to the MLS Combine Brad Ruhaak is invited to a Midwest Combine in Detroit To this I'll also add kudos to Jared and his staff for everything that they did for Victor Souto. We all saw some of the issues on the field from time to time, and we don't know what happened to lead to Victor's dismissal. But Victor gave us 3+ very good years on the field and was instrumental in our 2015 College Cup appearance. As I mentioned above, Victor graduated Summa Cum Laude with a UA Business degree...an accomplishment for which Jared and his staff brought to fruition by recruiting Victor and supporting him as they did. They should be extremely proud of this as I am (and I hope others are) proud of them. Finally, I'll say that I'm very proud of what Jared and his staff have done and continue to do with all of our players. The player issue above is the only one of which I know while Jared has been at Akron, under Caleb's tenure as head coach and during his own. We have had and continue to have outstanding Mens Soccer student-athletes whom are all outstanding young men and make us all proud. They do things the right way ... the Akron way!1 point

Always loved that video thank for sharing it. It should be a staple at the JAR. Too bad everyone in the MAC West wasn't included but at least it got the one Ohio school. Too bad the creator was never fully credited - great job.1 point

I have noticed the same. I actually brought my nephew Tuesday that I mentioned in another thread I had a bet with on Bosa/Brown tackles to wear a jersey. He actually brought money and was going to buy an Akron shirt and I told him to wait to see if he would catch one. Ironically enough he was one of the few to catch a shirt that made it to the track. Even after getting it he still wanted to buy one but I told him to hold off and I would get him one at the Walmart on Arlington for 1/3 of the cost of the team shop. I may be successful in converting him over to a Zips fan!1 point

How about something really different ? Amputee night .... All Amputees admitted, not free, but half off.1 point

It isn't free. He works, trains, attends meetings, practices and then plays on Saturdays (or is available to play on Saturday). That's not free, it's definitely a transaction that takes place. I feel compelled to point that out.1 point

Regardless of how anyone feels about building the stadium, I'm sure the current leadership is looking forward and focused on what to do about putting butts in that place, and hopefully aren't spending any of their time focusing on why it was built 10 years ago, before they were ever around. Even if you feel that way, there's nothing we can do now. We can't go and tear it down and start over. But you may be right that it should at least help us recognize that building an oversized basketball arena may send us down the same road.1 point

I'll bank on that to help a little bit too. But overall, if we were going to have some kind of "bump" in interest for tickets, I would have thought that we would have seen it after a Bowl Win and a 5-win start to the following season.1 point

Nobody here was commenting on why "numbers were down from last year" as we all knew the reason why. 90% of FBS use "actual numbers". What I'm tired of is hearing people regurgitate excuses. Failing to recognize the money pit the stadium has turned into will only leave us prone to making similar mistakes in the future. I've literally heard people on this forum say that Akron should spend large $$$ to build a 9k+ seat basketball arena even though only 1 MAC school averaged over 4,500 fans last season (Ohio at 6,010).1 point

I'm just checking in to hear the excuses. We had great weather, we got off to a great start, we were coming off our best season in program history, and had decent expectations heading into this season. At a time when fewer and fewer people are going to live sporting events every year, we just need to accept we will never be able to consistently pack Infocision.1 point

...all done to Michael Jackson's Thriller. Zippy even gets Brutus Buckeye in that one!1 point

Great video, they even got the president of the University in at the 55 second mark, Akron B Ball No. 1 fan. However, my favorite is still the animated version where Zippy stomps or eats all the other MAC schools. Would love to see them play that again during a game.1 point

I think this article makes it pretty clear why he chose Toledo. He states that he wants to be "that guy" and his mother mentions that Toledo is losing two seniors at his position. It seems that he just wants playing time and to take on a leading role. Akron's teams aren't exactly known for being centered around one person, whereas Toledo has been at different points.1 point
