  1. I made a solo trip to Toledo yesterday. I miss my bud Dr. Z's pics, and layout skills. No one likely wants to read about the Zips getting their butts whipped, but I went...and here it is. Toledo.pdf

  2. Figured I would start a thread for our first game in less than 3 weeks as I am trying to watch (ESPN3 feed keeps cutting out) the Coaches vs. Cancer media day. I will try to summarize what gets said if they ever get the feed back up.

  3. Funny how the Zip fan base finds 7-5 acceptable in football yet that winning percentage in basketball would make them lose their minds. Not saying I wouldn't be happy with a 7-5 football record after what we've been subjected to, but the perspectives sure are different.

  4. There are two sides to every story. I've seen posters making excuses for why we lose. We gave up 48 points and 626 yards and there was a poster who stated the game would have been closer had a few bounces gone our way. Seriously?! These nay-sayers, as you like to call them, are people who want to see Akron succeed. They want to see Akron be perennial MAC contenders the same way NIU and Toledo are. What frustrates me is the apathy among Zips fans. It seems to me many posters are content just being a 6 or 7 win team who when the Zips lose by 3+ touchdowns says oh well that was against a good team. I want to be the top dog. I've been critical of Bowden as I've lost faith in him being able to be that guy who elevates Akron to those heights. I will be a happy guy if I'm proved wrong and I assume those other nay-sayers will feel the same. I don't feel I was critical of last weeks win but I did state that we weren't going to win too many games where we are out gained 2:1 in yards. More times than not the outcome will be closer to the Toledo game than what it was for the WMU game. There is an easy way to silence the nay-sayers, win and win often.

  6. No offense, but this is a Zips board, not a family reunion.

  7. I don't agree. There aren't always two true sides to a story. Some sides are greater than others, simply because there is logical consistency and objectivity. Go back and look at this post where we made predictions on the season. We've preformed better than most of the nay-sayers predicted, and the nay-sayers are STILL crying like babies. That's logically inconsistent. At the very least they should be holding reservation and saying "hey we're not as bad as I thought...let me wait a couple of more games" instead of finding every reason to be mad. Now this could change by the end of the season. But you don't get to say both sides are equal. They aren't. We are objectively better than most people thought we would be at this point in the season. So the snowflakes can stop melting until there's actually something worth melting-down over.

  8. Love those 20-win seasons in basketball. Om nom nom.

  9. We're 4-4, with a decent probability of going 7-5. or 8-4. That's acceptable for me in October 2017. We'll see how the final 4 games play-out.

  10. I get that Bowden was left an immense pile of dung for a program, but he was hired on December 22, 2011.

  11. Zips currently projected to be in the Bahamas Bowl according to ESPN. I'd take that. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21110727/week-8-college-football-bowl-projections-2017

  12. A great week for the WSOC....followed up their 1-0 win Thursday night with a brilliant nil-nil draw against the best women's team in the MAC, Ball State. Ball State was 8-1-1 coming in to the match. Amani was great in goal, and the defense really stepped up and frustrated the Cardinal strikers. We had several scoring opportunities as well, but their keeper was also solid. This was as entertaining as a nil-nil game can be, and Akron did not back down once. I'd guess BSU possessed 55% vs. Akron's 45%. Zuk was again solid off the bench early and never came back out. Abigail Brown, Rachel Eck, Rachel Bachman and Shea O'Brien all troubled the Cardinal defense. Sydney Schipani honored before the match as the ONLY senior on this team. With just Thursday's 3 p.m. match remaining, things are improving, a lot, but a little too late.

  16. What an ending. After the golden goal our players went over to the stands to celebrate and on their way over to the student section a mass of BGSU players rushed out and started a shoving match. After what transpired just minutes earlier several UA police officers went out to keep the peace. One of the BG players then got into a shoving match with one of the police officers. As I left the stadium the entire BG team was still in their dugout and the police were conferring in the middle of the field.
