  1. He also went something like 6-18 from the field with a couple of those makes being desperation 3s that somehow found the net. Overall I feel Akron has done a good job at making opposing #1 scorers work for their points.

  2. Attacking the basket is a good thing. After Riak gets a rebound he needs to attack the basket. Yesterday I saw him make a 3 pointer, attempt a fade a way 8 footer, and turn the ball over several times passing the ball outside. Jackson attacked the basket and finished at the basket. If you noticed he did not circle around in the paint as he has in previous games. Groce has to teach these guys a basic rule in basketball. When you have the ball in the paint, take it to the hoop. You either get fouled, get blocked, or get a layup. Anytime you have a basketball play where you have a 67% chance of scoring you make that play. This team has the athleticism and quickness to get to the hoop. We just need to do a better job of finishing.

  3. German had 9 pts until deep in the 2nd half. Akron's defense is the real deal.

  4. Hard to win at NIU because there's no crowd. Hard to win at OU because crowd is too big. But Akrons crowd is in the middle and teams can't win at the JAR.

  5. Akron still has yet to get a road win this season and it's not like we're in a position to think going in this will be an easy win. Ohio is only 1 game behind us in the standings. If we lose i don't feel it's because we looked past Ohio. It would be because frankly we suck playing on the road.

  6. I disagree. I'm not sure Akron would ever overlook OU, especially with Groce at the helm. With a week off to prepare and focus too.. I don't personally see it

  7. I think Eman deserves an extended opportunity at the center spot. Rim protector and rebounder and in the past he has been able to make layups. If he fouls out oh well you have Riak and Sayles.

  8. We shot well in the second half. I also noticed at halftime that we came out early and did 3 point shooting drills. I watched Roscoe drain about 5 in a row and thought he would look good in the second half. Of course he air balled his first 3 ball but made his second. Glad to see Groce do something different and it paid off. We shot 40% from 3 ball land. Finally!!! This team is playing good defense. The first 10 minutes was tough to watch. I can tell you our offense, Utomi, 3, Riak, 3, and Jackson 2 drives to the basket. It was a struggle. When this team was up 8 with 4 minutes to go I knew that N. Illinois was going to make a run. We just cannot keep a lead late in the game. They switched to a zone, we looked lost and then the game got tied. It is great that this team is finally winning close games. Jackson played his best Mac game and was able to finish at the basket or draw a foul. Great win for the Zips. Need to win one on the road.

  9. 4 out of the 5 MAC teams currently with a winning conference record are in the MAC East. No MAC East team is worse than 3-4 in conference play. 9 out of our last 11 are against the MAC East and another against Toledo. The home stretch is going to be tough, but we should see a lot of quality match ups.

  10. 14 points for Utomi, so I think that counts as a bounce back.

  11. So since NIU beat Buffalo and we just beat NIU, does that make us better than Buffalo?

  12. That turnover was on Ivey, not Riak. Riak had his one arm held, and tipped the ball to the deep corner, which is where Ivey should have been with correct spacing. Ivey leaked up too far. Not a very under control play but not ill advised.

  15. They are definitely a hand full. I thought it was a just a fast start, but NIU is quick.
