  1. My biggest moment in the stadium was winning the 50/50 raffle for the Iowa State game! I actually made money by hosting a huge tailgate in Akron. Love the Roo! Wore a Zips button for the rest of the season.

  2. December 18, 1985- Zips relieve Jim Dennison of his duties and hire Gerry Faust. Regardless of whether you think it was a good or bad decision, it was a huge one that dictated the future of the program.

  5. I want to throw out there 2 other moments that haven't been mentioned. The Andre Jones walk-off return for a TD in 2007 against Western Mich. That was on every news network and ESPN top 10 plays for over a week. The other one is the Daron Alcorn 58 yrd field goal to Beat Toledo in the home opener at the Rubber Bowl in 1992. The Zips would go on to a 7-3-1 record that year. Daron Alcorn would then go on to be Mr. Irrelevant in the 1993 NFL Draft

  6. 2005 MAC Title Game. What a road to get in, needing help from the NIU/WMU game. What a comeback. Garrett Wolfe throwing up over 200 yds on the ground, prompting the SportsCenter personality to say in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice, "I will poop on all your defense!" My dad wanting to leave with something like 3-5 minutes left in the game before wisely appeasing his 11 year old son at the time who wanted to stay (I still remember the pessimist in him thinking Hixon dropped the ball, thinking "that's an Akron thing to happen"). Hixon battling cramps all game. And of course, who could forget... "Getsy pumps, he throws for Hixon and it is... CAUGHT! FOR A TOUCHDOWN! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!"

  7. It’s killed us not having Burkhart, most of our early scoring drives this season had a big play involving Burkhart on the drive. Have been stagnant without him. Let’s hope they figure a way out to 1. Get a running game 2. Protect the quarterback 3. Find a playmaker 4. Need a speedy receiver that gives deep threat to get everyone out of box Wow, that is a lot to work on

  8. Don Ursetti (sounded like a garbage disposal) and Whitey Wall (sounded like a grandmother-big contributor to UA though) were the previous announcers. They were terrible - French was a huge upgrade (Touchdown Akron! - wish we could hear more fo that this season)

  9. Whether or not it was the holders fault, for the rest of the game the freshman kicker Smigel was the one warming up on the sidelines. Anyone ever notice his blue shoes? Good stuff!

  10. Any reason we don't schedule Robert Morris in the regular season? They're probably better than any team we play at home this year in OOC play outside of maybe UMass.

  11. This is a respectable pre-season ranking. Even at our peak, our typical pre-season rankings put us ~100 (+/- 10) at the highest before working our way up to the 50s-60s. The four teams ahead of us... KSUcks (118) BUGS (117) Buffalo (93) Toledo (82) Regarding Groce's comments... - I like hearing the team chemistry seems to be good - WE HAVE DEPTH?! - I would be shocked if we aren't one of the best - if not THE (sue me, OSUcks) best - conditioned team in the MAC. Following the team's social media, they hit fitness HARD this off-season, including Orange Theory Fitness which I've done; it's no joke on the public class level, and I can't imagine how it was tweaked for the team. - Who was the scrimmage against? He said, "Andy's program."

  12. This poll is like voting for whose the tallest midget. Four of the six candidates don't even have winning records. Edit: I've changed my mind and am going with John Heisman (even though he's not listed as a choice) for his contribution to the game of football.

  13. Thanks, @kreed5120! But that's strange 24/7 says Janirr Wade committed yesterday. He's been on the ZN.o running verbal commitments list for a while now. I must have read of his commitment from another source. Honestly, I probably got it off his twitter.

  14. Offense: I would rather see more 12 personnel (thinking protection) than 22, not sure we have the roster right now to run 22, plus I don't want to see it (boring). I thought Decavilon Reese has looked good in his ten carries averaging 4.3 yards a carry. I would like to see more of him. Not a big fan of all the motion, and trying to disguise our personnel pre-snap. Lineup, and let the QB read the defense. Simplify. In my limited viewing of Gibson, it seems like he knows where his options to throw are, and makes the most of it. Get him some time to do so. Defense: What a shame for our defense to receive little encouragement from ZN members after holding a team to 7 points while spending the majority of the game on the field. Yes, they need to get more pressure on the QB, but did they need to pressure Vantrease? The defense limited him to 65 yards passing the entire game. Six...five, when was the last time that happened??? They were actually very effective switching between the 3-4, and 4-3. Lost in a poor performance by the offense, was an effective defense. I could point out some minor things, but this group was by far the best of the team last week. Special Teams: Get better at making field goals, and getting positive yards on punt returns. Momentum and field position are dependent upon this group. Go Zips!

  15. No comment until we see these new guys play. We have been down this path before. Highly touted recruits who never make it into a game.
