  1. Maybe as a non-state actor (Gueye) the Court of Claims is not the proper forum for a case against him. Also, I suspect he's not collectable. Here's a link to the complaint- https://ohcourtportal.tylerhost.net/Portal/DocumentViewer/Index/JSHNe2P1SDNQmsBqI6uaok_Mg3zcBXLSbkYlNuGafIX2qrO47lsub3IEsNv4Oh9WA8pe-mfm_mOhKfaqq_4NhMdDNI7MVtV7Z22oHvVSQ3HYLagEoljL8f8fUCCIooiT0?p=0

  3. I think you’ll be able to say that for every match as we progress through what’s left on the slate.

  4. A 3-2 road win at EMU yesterday evens the women's record to 4-4-1 and in 7th place with 13 points, a point ahead of #8 Can't State. Toledo sits in the 9th slot 4 points behind the Zips. WSOC take on Central Michigan Sunday, then come home for the regular season finale against Buffalo at 3:00 pm (all schools in the MAC play at 3 the final match, as some schools do not have lights for soccer, and all matches must be simultaneously played). A win in Mt. Pleasant or at FES and the Zips are through to MAC tournament play. A Toledo loss on Sunday or Thursday puts Akron in. The Zips beat Toledo 2-0 earlier in the season and hold the tie-breaker if the two teams are tied at the end of the season. Way to go Zips!

  5. If you watch his highlights, it is very obvious the position he plays in high school. He played either the Nose or Tackle, and never on the outside in his mid season highlights. He did not seem very dominant or quick, but if he was, he would be going big time. However, he plays at a position of need, the DL. I hope that he keeps his commitment and becomes a Zip.

  6. Happened at the JAR. Not a pick up game. Pretty sure the incident is all on video.

  7. Thanks for the link. This asks more questions than it answers. Were there any previous complaints about the hostile "workplace". Is there any proof of the racism complaint, other than potential testimony by Mark? They allege they "allowed" him to drive home. Devils advocate: They are not doctors and did not know the extent of his injuries. How do you stop a 6'11" guy from leaving? OTOH there could be a valid case for failure to supervise and failure to provide a safe environment. I wonder if the University is going to indemnify and defend Groce or throw him under the bus. He may need to pay his own lawyer, that is common in the case of multiple defendants, their interests may not ultimately be the same. i.e. The University may try to lay all the blame on Groce and avoid liability. That is pretty common. Should be an interesting case.

  8. I think his injuries and surgeries are well documented, so the fact that he refused medical transport at the scene probably is of no import. As well, the other guy was convicted of a crime, so liability as to HIM is well established. Whether he can hold the University liable is the question. He will probably need more than his own testimony to make the racism case. But I think as a general principle of liability the University may be somewhat on the hook. They will, of course, claim they are not liable for the CRIMINAL act of another. But they *may* get nailed for the coach not controlling the atmosphere. Remains to be seen. I am surprised he did not name the guy who hit him as a defendant. There is no finding of fact as to him to go to a jury, just an inquest as to damages (because of the criminal conviction). A lot of times people go for that to get a judgement, in case the guy wins the lottery or gets a pro contract or inherits money or whatever.

  9. Scotty looked pretty intimidated next to his teammates at the ice cream social. ? I had two main worries with this situation. First, how did it get to this level? Usually that hostility builds, it's not an unexpected lashing out. Second, he drove himself to the hospital. Those are now questions for the Court of Claims.

  10. From the article: Kostelac alleges he suffered discrimination because he is white and the majority of members of the team were black. He also alleges he was targeted for his religion because he is Catholic. Wait a minute... are we talking about Kostelac or Scott Walter?

  11. It may be a winner. Depends on his testimony and whether any of the others back him up. In any case, it is a bad allegation to be brought against the coach. There is a taint even if not true, because that is how we roll today. Guilty until proven innocent.

  16. What is the status of Reese for the NIU game? He gave the offense spark that Lee could never provide. I also liked the couple of plays that Hayes Kennedy had in the game. However, I would guess that they would try to save him and red shirt him. He should have three more games to play this year.

  19. I want to throw out there 2 other moments that haven't been mentioned. The Andre Jones walk-off return for a TD in 2007 against Western Mich. That was on every news network and ESPN top 10 plays for over a week. The other one is the Daron Alcorn 58 yrd field goal to Beat Toledo in the home opener at the Rubber Bowl in 1992. The Zips would go on to a 7-3-1 record that year. Daron Alcorn would then go on to be Mr. Irrelevant in the 1993 NFL Draft

  20. 2002 victory over ranked Marshall. Leftwich being carried down the Rubber Bowl field. Still shown as classic college football game to this day. Owens best win for me.
