  1. It appears that Darlington Nagbe is coming back to Ohio to be reunited with Caleb Porter in Columbus. ??????

  2. I'm dreaming, I know that, but I think it's time for one of those Cinderella stories, where the oh-for team has all the stars aligned and the players play perfect games, and EMU takes them way for granted and no one is there to cheer either team, so it doesn't even feel like a game to the Hurons...woops! the Eagles, so they'll play like a scrimmage. Somehow a QB finds a way to lead the team to 3 - three! - touchdowns and the D plays a perfect game and forces 5 punts, and by the time the final clock expires it will be almost midnight and no one will be in the parking lots and I can just get in my car and drive home with a smile on my face.....Huh? Wake up? Oh sorry, Dear, I must have dozed off here in my chair watching it snow outside......This is going to be so embarrassing to go back and re-read after the game....

  3. We were fortunate to have KD as long as we did. The NCAA has loosened the rules and have made it much easier for players to transfer, which has led to a steadily increasing numbers of transfers at the D1 level year over year. Even KD has steadily been losing guys to transfer at Duquesne. It's just the way the game has transformed.

  8. I don't think anyone believes Groce's squads are better than KD's. Many of is do believe, however, that Groce's teams have improved every year.

  9. You are correct. Maybe him starting was just a rumor and it stuck with me? Harney most definitely played PG though after the drug trafficker ruined our season.

  11. Since you brought it up, let's spread some good vibes and listen to the joy in Frenchie's voice.

  12. Don't we all.....though when I think of that year I also think of us owning OU in the MAC-C with Harney starting at PG. That makes me feel a little better.

  14. I think at this juncture, that's all we're left with- hope, because UA can't afford to pay 3 head football coaches. The solution may well be '"do better in the future" and "don't repeat past mistakes" but there's no going back to fix it. If the Arth era ends up the disaster many of you suggest, all any of us can do is hope the administration, trustees, AD and boosters learn from their errors.

  15. I probably shouldn't have said midpoint but rather well into next season. That is when I would hope improvement is evident. I just don't always know how easy it is to read the non-conference part of the schedule and you really don't know much about the new year's teams. Certainly not sure how much knowledge we can gain if the Zips go to Clemson and lose 56-3. its also not all about wins and losses as long as the team seems to be more competitive and improving. My main point, though, was that I don't put a lot of stock in a new coach's first year. there were some who said Bowden would be terrible after his first year at Akron, others said he would be great. I think its safe to say he was neither. I remember how everyone loved Brookhart after leading the Zips to the MAC title in his first year but he was not the springboard everyone envisioned either. Just saying that you can't judge much by a first year. you hope to see a glimpse of the future in year two but can tell a lot more by the time year three comes along.

  16. Last year I was not in the fire Bowden camp but rather in the please replace Milwee camp. That being said I do think it is difficult to just say a new coach is terrible in year one unless it has to do with behavior and discipline. While I certainly cannot say I am a huge fan of the Arth hire so far I do think, as far as my own opinion is concerned, that the jury is still out and probably will be until the midpoint of next season. I will continue to support my Zips as always no matter who the coach.

  17. Glad to see Channel Banks get his shot back. That could win a number of games for us this season. Surprised me to see Ali Ali with the start. As mentioned above, he's an unknown commodity due to the lack of recruiting information on him/video of him. He's quite composed for a true frosh & obviously has the proverbial 'high basketball I.Q." He's long & athletic & can handle the ball well for someone 6'6" - 6'7". Looks like Tre Edwards will be the redshirt of the class. Personally, I was also surprised to see Camron Reece with the start over Riak. But Cam Reece is a beast. Not to put too much pressure on him and say he's our next Tree, but... he kinda reminds me of Tree. Deng Riak, as someone mentioned above, is precisely the same player we saw last year. Next to no PT for Jayden Sayles. Greg Tribble is very athletic. He's going to have to work on his 3-point shot. LePear Toles in street clothes. Sad to see. Looks like his playing days are completely over. I was looking forward to possibly seeing him get a little PT last night. Tyler Cheese is still the best player on the floor. Check that. Best player on the floor is probably X. Man, is he smooth for someone 6'9". Has a nice 3-ball. Cool, clam & collected. He plays like a senior. LCJ, Banks, Cheese, Reece, X. When that group starts to gel after Christmas, man, that'll be a handful for anyone. Malone had a really good forward named Sehill Mouliom from Paris, France. There has to be an interesting story there as to how he wound up at Malone. He finished with, I think, 23 points. But that was one aspect of the game where it was obvious Akron's coaching staff was treating this game more as a scrimmage; they refused to double-team Mouliom on the block, allowing him 4-5 dribbles to get his shots off. If Akron were concerned with making defensive adjustments during this game, I'd have to assume they'd instantly double down on Mouliom & get the ball out of his hands on the block. But Malone ran a really nice offense, looked well-coached, and, IMHO, acquitted themselves quite well. It was a fun game. It's always difficult to get an accurate read on the team during that annual first game (typically against Malone, Walsh, Mount Union, etc.). I usually enjoy those first games because everyone gets to play. But 1) you can tell the Akron players aren't 100% engaged, and 2) it looks like Groce is hoping to play the entire bench anyway. I'm excited about going 10-deep, but doing so will probably mean it'll take a bit longer for the team to gel & for the coaching staff to find the right on-court combinations.
