  1. Fantastic comeback for coach Melissa Jackson's Zips yesterday, outscoring BeeGee 14-0 over the final 2:29 to defeat the Falcons 76-73 at Stroh Center. There's no quit in the women, as this is the second major fourth-quarter come-from-behind victory, following the game at St Bonaventure where they made up a similar large deficit in the final quarter of the contest. Haliegh Reinoehl scored a career high 26 to lead the wahine Zips.

  4. My dad used to take me to see professional wrestling at the Civic Center. Saw the Road Warriors and Macho Man there. Great times. One night we stayed late & were able to talk to Jake the Snake & Ted Dibiase (sp?) after almost everyone else had gone home.

  6. I've been "working" Canton Charge games, and wondering why Akron never built a facility like the Canton Civic Center. It's not the most modern facility (60+ years old), not the biggest, but they get a LOT of use out of it. I've driven (through Akron) down there to watch indoor soccer, arena football, and now future Cavs. Why did Akron never build a similar facility? Maybe a bit bigger?

  10. I am in agreement with @TennZip here. I believe 2019 was a "one off". But I also believe that THIS Spring training and matches are critical to this happening. Need to bring everyone together and understand each other and each other's characteristics and style. Stop relying on their Academy's style and begin to build the ability from the past teams to play by instinct, not by thinking.

  11. Utomi was probably a good fit fit the Big Dog type, post-centric offense, where he could bomb away when the center got double-teamed. But could you imagine him fitting in with this team? I wouldn’t want to forfeit any of Cheese or Bank’s minutes to him. I wish him well. Great kid. But we’re a better team without him this year.

  12. Great to see some discussion on this board. I know that there are so many zip soccer fans that are anxious to learn who the zips will have on the field for the games in the Spring. I really think that fall 2020 is going to be a huge bounce back year for the Zips. I think that Natnael McDonald and Ivan Nikolic (both had to miss fall 2019 due to injuries)....will really be key contributors for the 2020 Zips.

  13. I would put the odds of CJ leaving the Zips at slim to none.

  14. Utomi was disgruntled, and not a recruit of the present coach. Maybe he was a little delusional of his abilities...maybe he was a bad fit for Groce's system...maybe all of those. But it wasn't a shock to see him leave. Poke? He wasn't going to see any PT, and left for a smaller program. LCJ is already on his 2nd school. He really seems to be enjoying Akron, playing under Groce, and running his own team. I don't see many P5 schools looking for 5' 8" point guards. For all those reasons, I will be shocked if he leaves. Not all kids think the grass is greener elsewhere. Put this post in a time capsule and open it in a few months. We'll see if I'm right. ?

  15. The NFL finds talent. But they aren't going to find talent that never gets on the field. However, not all fields are the same. Getting on the field for Akron means that you are on national TV several weeks per year, including some weeknights when you are the only game on TV.
