It's funny, the people who smile in my dad's face are the same ones who pray for his failures behind their computer screens. Three seasons later, Akron is 14-3 and 4-0 in the MAC, and yet many of you would rather belittle KD's past and present success than enjoy Akron's return to the top of the MAC. Some things I'll never understand...5 points

Their rebounding and scoring stats are pretty similar. Knapke is 3 or 4 inches taller and a good 30 pounds heavier. He is superior defensively and blocks a lot of shots. He also shoots it much better from the 3 point line. The only place Teague may have an advantage is foot speed. I'd love for the Zips to have either of them.2 points

I will give non-drunk BSU cardfan12 credit for a funny comment "On a side note, the NCAA should not allow any school to call their arena "The Jar" unless it's Ball State or George Mason". ?2 points

My impressions, please add comments: 1. Very very athletic team. More so than any KD team I can recall. 2. Reece is a beast. 3. Williams is the real deal. Probably not a prolific scorer, but an all around star player. Great defense, assists, basketball sense. And amazing defense. He needs to be the team leader and make the team his. Lead by doing. 4. Reece is a beast. 5. Tribble will be a star. He has some moves. And a ton of confidence. Could be our best PG since - Dru Joyce? Help me out here. Good size, great moves, plays very smart for a freshman. 6. Reece is a beast. 7. Cheese is the real deal. Plays his A$$ off and is all over the Court. Wish we had him for a few more years. 8. Reece is a beast. 9. Most improved player - Riak! Very pleased with the way he is playing. I did not think he would ever be a factor, I was wrong. 10. Reece is a beast. 11. Banks had a great night. I hope this is the new normal. 12. Reece is a beast. 13. LCJ has great hands. He is a disruptor on defense. I wish he would not chuck up threes quite so much, it is still a team sport. Very happy to see we have his eventual replacement in Tribble. 14. Ali took a shot! Awesome. He has the size, hope to see him playing more aggressive. I think we can be very very good in the Mac this year. We seem to have all the pieces. This is not only the most athletic team I have seen, it is also pretty tall (although we don't have a 7 footer and we have to see how THAT plays when we come up against one). Did I mention: REECE IS A BEAST. I don't expect a ton of scoring unless we post him up a lot, but FINALLY we have a rebounder and a big body defender! He sort of reminds me more of Nik than of Tree, but way more athletic. I wonder how the major majors let him get away. He could for sure play anyplace. Fire away.1 point

He'll be an interesting challenge due to his ability to shoot it from outside. When they faced Teague from Ball State, Riak seemed to over defend him at the arc and as a result Teague blew around him. I don't know if Knapke has the speed or ballhandling skills for that but if he does, UA has to pick its poison. Double teaming him doesn't seem to be in UA defensive plan.1 point

For being 6'11 he kind of plays small. 39% of his shot attempts are from beyond the 3-point line.1 point

I admire you for sticking up for your dad. You should. He gave a hell of a lot to us and I am very grateful for that. The internet is full of cowards and our site is no different. Nonetheless this is a great site. There are many readers and posters who respect all KD did for us. It was his decision to move on and that has to be respected too. Perhaps it was best for all parties. For you and your dad this much is true, once a Zip, always a Zip. All the best!1 point

Ignore them, your dad brought UA basketball back from the absolute abyss. Most of the joy I've had with Akron basketball is because your dad was at the helm. He didn't know me but every time I traveled somewhere to see the team play he always stopped to say hello. Good man I wish him success, not like UA and Duquesne can't both have success at the same time. (Oh and thanks for your contributions to Akron soccer also a team which has given me much joy).1 point

We would've hurt their chances at the precious 20-win mark. Our brand of basketball is night-and-day compared to what the Dukes are putting out there. I would love to see us play Duquesne - anywhere - but I highly doubt it will happen, at least not until KD is confident Duquesne could win; even then I'm not sure he'd be willing to risk the "upset". I watched the latter part of regulation and all of the overtime session. I saw the same stuff that plateaued Akron's program - little ball movement, inside-out basketball, etc. TDM made his first and only 3 of the game in OT. We wouldn't have had 2 years of suffering, but the ceiling is much higher under Groce, his type of recruits, and his style of play than it would have been had KD not departed. Side note: I was reading Duquesne's board, and it sounds like Maceo Austin's sister may have passed away recently, which could have led to a flatter performance/closer game.1 point

There are marketing majors and a marketing department in the business school. Put some of those kids to work for credits. I don't see that it's much needed thought as GT and the Beacon whip up plenty of excitement for the home games.1 point

I heard Akron is considering something similar although to increase efficiency beer drinkers will be required to consume their suds while standing in front of a urinal (located in a JAR restroom; no bringing your own urinal to the JAR). To increase beer sales they are seriously considering installing eye level TV screens. Now that's out-of-the-box thinking!1 point

Man I hope he wins this. How cool would it be to have an Olympic medal, a HOF inductee and an Oscar winner all stemming from Zips athletics in the last few years?1 point

In a way I'm disappointed the Flushes lost because I'd like to add another reasonably highly ranked team to the resume. But then again they are the Flushes. ?1 point

We got the struggling to win at DeKalb monkey off our back. Now lets get the struggle to beat Toledo monkey off our back as well. We seem to be playing Toledo at the right time. I'm not sure what's going on with them. They should be playing much better than they are. Hopefully it takes them at least 1 more game before they figure it out, especially since Cheese and Reece may be a little banged up for this one.1 point
